About Jacob

Hello everyone! My name is Jacob Hajek. I’ve been happily married to my wonderful wife since 2014, and together we share a love for animals—currently the proud companions of eight cats. I’ve enjoyed RPGs in many forms throughout my life: from paperback choose-your-own-adventure books, to JRPGs like Final Fantasy VII, to tabletop role-playing games. I began my TTRPG journey in 2006 with Dungeons & Dragons 3.5, briefly explored 4th Edition. My GM career started in 2012 with D&D 3.5, and I’ve since branched out to Powered by the Apocalypse, Savage Worlds, a fan-made Hogwarts system I ran for over a year, and both the Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPG and Genesys systems. In 2017, I began using D&D Beyond extensively and ran many campaigns there. More recently, I’ve fallen in love with Daggerheart—after running several games, it’s become my preferred system! That said, if D&D is your jam, I’m happy to dive in. I love crafting stories around my players. Because of that, I rarely run modules—but I’ll happily borrow ideas from them when they serve the narrative. Thank you for considering a seat at this (virtual) table. I’m excited to see where your story leads!

I became a GM because

I love helping people, and as a GM I'm able to facilitate a world of fiction that others can play in. I enjoy world building, but with the pieces the players give me to work with. It's like playing the ultimate Rogue-lite!

My favorite system of all Time is

I'm recently fallen in love with Daggerheart! The way the system flows is so natural and lends itself to my GM style of the ebb and flow of play.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Work full time as a Radiation Protection Specialist. On weekends my wife and I enjoy hiking, traveling, and playing a variety of games

How Jacob runs games

My games first and foremost focus on the player characters; they are the protagonists of the story, and everything revolves around them. I love weaving player backstories into the narrative, and when players give me rich material. I’m a facilitator of the world and a fan of the PCs. I shape each session around the group’s playstyle. If your group favors deep roleplay, we’ll focus on emotional, character-driven scenes. Prefer tactical combat? Expect dynamic, high-stakes encounters. Love exploration? The world will be rich with secrets. If those elements don’t appeal, I adapt—the story centers on what you care about. Above all, my goal is to create a meaningful, safe, and unforgettable story together. Whether you're here for drama, danger, or delightfully strange characters, my table welcomes you.

I deal with rules issues by...

I will generally rule in the players favor unless it undermines the narrative at the table. If there is a major dispute I am more than happy to discuss it after the session, but I promote a flow over control atmosphere, and don't like halting games and breaking the emersion to search through rules.

My games focus on...

The Player Characters. I don't want to monologue, I want the table to engage and join in the collaborative story telling!

Rules are...

Definitely more like guidelines! I appreciate the framework and mechanics they provide, but I will deviate from the book in favor of fun.

Jacob's ideal table

I enjoy facilitating a stimulating table, In addition to describing scenes, I use visuals, maps, handouts, and audio (mostly for ambiance). Players that enjoy a dynamic setting where the world reacts to them as much as they react to it will enjoy my games. I enjoy hearing my players cheer as they celebrate victories, and support and honor each other in the hardships they face.

Fun and energetic, with a touch of dramatic! I want you to have a good time, so please express your enjoyment! Celebrate the table victories and grieve any losses that might come.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Stories. I love working with player character backstories or things that they are interested in. I will incorporate my groups backstories into my sessions, and in long term play I often design whole story arcs around each player character.

I love it when a player

My top 3 moments with players are: 1. Players interact with each others character and their backstory. 2. When players give me a backstory to work with and world build around. 3. Uses teamwork and creative problem solving in situations that I put them in.
