About It’s just Tim
Imagine looking out your window, and seeing a child playing in his backyard. He’s swinging a stick and making pew-pew sounds with his mouth, and having arguments with some imaginary being. That kid was probably me. Hey there, I’m Tim. Been a long-time nerd and tabletop enjoyer. Much of what I liked as a kid, I still hold joy for today and to bring it to my tables. I’ve been doing collaborative storytelling for 20 years, on and off again, be it Dungeons & Dragons or rolling whatever dice I have and using dinosaur toys as minis. I’m at my best while building a world together with the players, so we can immerse ourselves completely in the setting. I find it’s easier to stay invested if we’ve already made something together before embarking on our epic quest. Whatever setting, theme, or genre we come up with, you can bet we’ll have an adventure on our hands. So what are you waiting for, adventurer? Join me on a quest or two, and let’s build a story together.

I became a GM because
I want to get back to doing something that I love. I love a lot of different creative hobbies and tabletop games can bring them all together, in a way that a lot of other things can't in my life. Lastly, I want to share stories with all kinds of people!
My favorite books are
The Hobbit, The Night Circus, and any Redwall book to be honest. Redwall opened my little brain up to fantasy and brave little critters.
My favorite shows/movies are
Over The Garden Wall, and Treasure Planet. They activate some real childlike wonder in me that always makes me want to watch them again.
How It’s just Tim runs games
☕ As your Game Master, expect a cosy vibe and some light-hearted japes. I like setting the mood with music and a few visuals - you’d be surprised at how the tone shifts if a crackling fire is going while your party sits in a tavern. 📜 Roleplay is a heavy aspect of my games. I like to bring a character's backstory into the sessions to learn more about the characters, and challenge them with decisions they’ll have to think twice about. I’m big on using voices and descriptive sounds/scenery, even if it makes me seem ridiculous. ⚔️ I like making combat encounters and using them to push the narrative. There will be no random wolves attacking you in the middle of night, unless you’ve killed their father and they’re seeking revenge. It’s a great time to learn about your characters and the choices they make during combat are just as important as conversations outside of it. ❗I don't accept any personal attacks of any kind - including race, sex, beliefs, or otherwise. We are here to do something we like and have a good time together, and it is not in the spirit of the games I like to run.

I prep by
Furiously making word documents, internet searches, and brainstorming how to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. When that's all put together, I do a lot of improv when I'm in that cozy spot. The hardest I've gone is read a book to gain perspective on a player character's motivations.
Rules are...
Meant to be learned so you know how to deviate from them the right way. Know what you're trying to break before you do!
When it comes to voices
I will try any and all ranges of voice I can make. It passes the time on the way to work, and it helps me ground NPCs for the games.
It’s just Tim's ideal table
I like to provide a welcoming and relaxed environment. I often say that if everyone at the table isn't having fun, we aren't playing a tabletop game. Players that are willing to engage in the lore and try things out that may not normally be allowed by RAW (rules as written) will be a good fit. While the rules are there to guide us, they shouldn’t get in the way of our fun. It'll be a good space for you if like getting into character and finding out more about your fellow players through roleplay.

I love it when a player
Uses spells or other game mechanics that aren’t how they were written to be used. It can create memorable moments for the player, and the party, that helps make the character/story its own.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Exclaim “but that’s what my character would do.”. 99% of the time if the players aren’t laughing and agree with you, things will quickly go downhill from there.
I think min/maxing...
Is a perfectly valid and enjoyable way to play the game. Just don’t expect me to pull any punches if that’s the kind of game you want to play!
