About Idiotcoder

Hello, my name is Rick and I have been playing D&D since the original box set. I still have very fond memories of Keep on the Borderlands as my first real adventure. When playing, I like to keep a nice ratio of 60/40 roleplay to combat and take the time to prepare maps, lighting, sounds in order to add as much flavor into my sessions as I can. I use D&D Beyond, with the Beyond20 and AboveVTT browser plugins (so Chrome or Firefox with these plugins are required). This provides a smooth and seamless integration in tooling that will let players concentrate on the fun of the game rather than resolving math problems. I also host a discord server for voice. If you schedule a game with me and need help creating a character, I am always more than glad to help.

How Idiotcoder runs games

My optimal game is 60% roleplay/exploration, with background music, background sounds, character voices and any other assets necessary to allow the players to immerse themselves into their characters. The other 40% is combat, where the integrations of AboveVTT with D&DBeyond makes it much more smooth and less "crunchy". Regardless, this percentage switches more toward what the players seem to be reacting well to, as it's their time to have fun.
