About Drew

I have been playing D&D for about 10 years, Dungeon Mastering for the last 3 years. I love character driven stories, incorporating my PC's backstories into overall campaigns. My speciality is running D&D modules, but taking liberties with the plot as written, especially when it comes to weaving PC backstories into the over arching story of the module. I let my PCs be a huge part of the collaborative story we are telling, and enjoy allowing them to homebrew elements of their characters and take control narratively when the story calls for it.

I became a GM because

I wanted to play more D&D. I only knew one other DM, and had a lot of friends that wanted to try it. I learned so I could start my own tables and work towards my final goal of having at least one D&D session a week! Or more if this works out!

My favorite shows/movies are

For movies its fantasy, horror and scifi, preferably with at least a sprinkle of comedy in each of those genres. My favourite movie of all time is Young Frankenstein. I love and consume so many TV shows - right now it's The Pitt and Shrinking that I think are the best shows on TV right now.

When I'm not running games I'm...

a father. I love my kids more than anything, and I can't wait till they are old enough to play D&D with me. My seven year old daughter has already expressed a lot of interest in playing, but she isn't quite ready - plus, I need more people willing to run a one shot with a child in the party!

How Drew runs games

I'm not trying to TPK. I want to have fun, with a focus on RP and PC character arcs. If you've got a detailed character background, my speciality is taking that story and finding creative ways of working it into the main story of the campaign. There are no main characters; everyone will have a complete character arc. I also love joking at the table. Bring me your silly little weird guy characters and they will fit right in at my table!

My favorite trope is...

Clerics/Warlocks with a funny deity/patron. I love these classes because they come with an NPC for me to play that is all powerful - and I love when that powerful being is just a little bit silly sometimes.

My games focus on...

every PC's individual character arc. Your arc is just as important as the overall arc of the campaign.

When it comes to voices

Sometimes I slip in and out of the character, but I try my best! And I'll never judge a player that just wants to have their normal voice. It's a big world out we're creating together - someone out there probably sounds exactly like you.

Drew's ideal table

I want to have fun. I want us to laugh and cry together while we tell this story. I am a huge advocate for PC's that want to roleplay and dig deep into who they are playing. For your backstory, whether you give me a novel or two sentences, I will take what you give me and write your backstory into the main arc so that everyone at the table gets their chance to feel that main character energy! Be polite, make jokes that aren't at anyone's expense, and invest in our story! We are both co-writers in this collaborative story. Only I know where it's going, but you get to write how we get there.

I love it when a player

disappears into their character. Invest in the story, and invest in your character! If that character goes down, I want to feel the stakes.

My perfect party mix is

A healer (Preferably a cleric cause I love DMing for clerics), something that can hit hard and take a hit like a barb or fighter, a support class like a bard, and a heavy damage attack class like a caster or a rogue.

My table is not the place for...

showing off or trying to steal the spotlight. We all get our chance to be the main character. Wait your turn.
