About Haydrian Cindel

Hey everyone! My name is Haydrian Cindel and I've been a GM for 4 years now. I'm passionate about running interesting games for people. I run my own homebrewed modules that make use of the DND 5e ruleset. This is my first foray into professional GM work. I love Eldritch stories, stories based on mythology, and classic fantasy generally.

I got started GMing...

When a friend introduced me to play by post. We co created a fascinating world and that was it, I had the bug. I began crafting worlds and experimenting with GM'ing.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative, descriptive, and engrossing. My games are worlds to be experienced by interacting with them.

How Haydrian Cindel runs games

My style has a healthy mix of things, by my first priority is always theme/atmosphere. In terms of skills I'm working on my voice acting, I'm good at both map play and theater of the mind, I love providing music and atmospheric visual pieces. I love setting the scene for players, and creating a space that encourages roleplay and exploring the game world. Heavy roleplay is not required, but those willing to engage with the world and story beyond the surface level plotline will find rewards await them. Though I use 5e rules, they are altered to fit the theme of whatever world the game takes place in, I love homebrewing abilities that fit people's characters, and if you want to try something crazy that isn't technically within the ruleset then as long as the situation allows I'm all for it. Combat also appears frequently in my games, but it is seldom a single room slugfest, and encourages creative solutions (both violent and non violent). Players in my games will find the experience the most rewarding if they approach the game world with curiosity and caution.

I deal with rules issues by...

It depends on the situation, but I find most issues easily resolved through either referring to the book or just agreeing on a reasonable alternative. My games use the book rules as guidelines, so making different calls that rules as written is common.

Rules are...

Are useful tools to help us tell a story. They are there to enhance the experience by giving guide lines. I'm often willing to bargain with players. If they want to do something they couldn't normally do, If it's reasonable I just need them to give me something in return.

Haydrian Cindel's ideal table

My table focuses on roleplay, mystery, and cautious exploration. My game worlds are to dangerous to explore casually, they require a degree of wariness. However exploration and engaging deeply with the world is not strictly required, but its the best way to enjoy my games.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Mystery, suspense, spookiness, and danger.

I love it when a player

Asks to do something creative. Doing things within the rules is awesome, but if the rules are constraining you from doing something reasonable then I'm all about the rule of cool. More than that though I love it when a player does so by engaging with the world and story.
