About Haru

Heya, I'm Haru! I've been Playing and GMing TTRPGs since my youth, initially in person, then around covid transitioning to fully online as one of my two primary hobbies (besides gaming). I'm a quite engaged and dedicated person generally speaking that highly values honesty, reliability and punctuality. I love roleplay of all different kinds, building characters from both a mechanical and a backstory point and have been engaging in it for many hours per week for years. My main system has originally been PF1e, then since it's release transitioned to PF2e, though I've also dabbled into some other systems on occasion like e.g. WtA and Lancer. Professionally speaking, I'm a trained software developer and generally quite a tech nerd that likes to experiment and play around with all kinds of stuff. I do also have some experience as an afterschool tutor, primarily for maths, as I enjoy teaching things and seeing others make new experiences and show them how to approach problems from new angles that may be easier to understand for them. Personally, I'm a very open minded and inclusive person who sometimes tends to try a bit too hard to make everything to everyone's liking.

My favorite system of all Time is

Pathfinder 2E. I love how it provides me rules for anything I need, but is also easy to modify at the same time for me to add custom content or systems for whatever I wanna do with it.

People are always surprised when I tell them

that I've actually developed my entire own RPG system at one point (Never finished a proper rulebook for it though) and also ran a Westmarches server for a system I highly modified to better work with text based play over multiple years.

When I'm not running games I'm...

usuall either preparing sessions, playing in sessions myself, or playing video games. I also have a digital game I'm sometimes working on as a hobby project when the mood strikes.

How Haru runs games

I tend to present both roleplay heavy and tactically engaging styles of GMing, which usually depends on both a mix of my playgroup and the system/adventure I am running. I've designed puzzles, written very deep and fleshed out investigations and run massive multi-session roleplay encounters without a single combat, but I've also designed brutally difficult custom boss fights to bring my players to their limits in character building. What I do with each individual group highly depends on their experience, expectations and the system/adventure at use, in the end.

My games focus on...

whatever the System and Campaign (and the group I run for) demands to work best. This cna be quite roleplay heavy, but it can also just aswell be a minimal roleplay combat grind.

Rules are...

hopefully a solid construct to build upon. I like to modify, invent and customise where needed and where something is either inconvenient, dysfunctional or missing, but that's a lot easier with a good solid system as a baseline.

When it comes to voices

I like making silly voices. I can't always keep to them super well and I may have the occasional session where I can't afford to make them for health reasons, but overall I think making character voices is nice silly fun.

Haru's ideal table

I like to foster an open atmosphere, where everyone can be themselfes, without any space for racism, bigotry or any other form of discrimination. Roleplay is an amazing opportunity to be whoever you wanna be and explore oneself and I wanna offer my players the opportunity and safe space to do exactly that.

I love it when a player

is able to be themselfes, be whoever they feel like being and wanna be, without fear of any nasty comment or insults by those around them.

I think metagaming...

is sometimes necessary to move a scene forward or solve a riddle, but I overall prefer my players to stay in character where possible.
