About Oren

I like to run story-driven games with a good balance of combat and roleplay as appropriate for the system. Like so many, I started playing TTRPGs during COVID. In that time, I have run and played dozens of campaigns and one-shot adventures. Dungeons and Dragons was my first, but I am especially fond of Call of Cthulhu. My many hobbies include game design (board games and TTRPG content), and writing. I am a veteran who enjoys creative, tactical combat in D&D, and I am a history buff who enjoys historical accuracy in Call of Cthulhu. I am happy to play with either experienced or new players. As long as everyone is having fun, nothing is off the table.

My favorite books are

definitely the Lord of the Rings including the Silmarillion and Tolkien's unpublished works. A close second are many of Stephen King's works, H.P. Lovecraft's works, H. G. Wells's books, and most recently Dungeon Crawler Carl. Sci-fi/fantasy in general.

My favorite shows/movies are

Futurama or Big Bang theory. I used to be a huge Simpsons fan, but I haven't gotten into it much since season 20. I would say my favorite movies are Big Lebowski, Snatch (or any Guy Ritchie), and (randomly) Almost Famous. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is also great, and re-watch them frequently.

When I'm not running games I'm...

creating content and games or raising my 4 children. Also, working. There's a lot of working. I'm still active-duty army, and I travel very often. I make time for gaming when my normal duties allow.

How Oren runs games

I love story-driven games where the players discover the world. I often ask players to fill in details about the world to increase immersion. I enjoy combat and roleplay, but I would say I am most passionate about exploration and investigation when this is possible.

Oren's ideal table

All that really matters is a table where players contribute to the experience. Everyone gets to be the main character sometimes, but no one takes over. I always ask my players to attempt to tell me what their characters would do rather than requesting a specific roll.
