About GroggyGolem
I love Tabletop RPG's. With over 11 years experience as a player and Game Master, I prioritize one thing above all else: fun for everyone. This begins with a preparatory session 0 so everyone can collaborate on what will help us achieve the most fun.

I became a GM because
It was the best way to ensure I got to play more RPG's. I have only been a player from time to time since then and have come to the realization I prefer the role of GM. I get to play a multitude of characters, read all the rulebooks, and I get the privilege of facilitating fun for everyone involved!
My favorite shows/movies are
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. To me, it is the perfect trilogy in which each subsequent film is better than the last. They run through nearly everything that one might want in a good story: action, adventure, romance, mystery, intrigue, magic, friendship, comedy & horror.
When I'm not running games I'm...
preparing to run games, thinking about running games, and desiring to run games. You might catch me at a Renaissance Fair dressed as a pirate. I dabble in numerous nerdy hobbies such as video gaming, board gaming, card gaming. I watch tv, movies, and anime as well.
How GroggyGolem runs games
I specialize in player-driven and player-focused storytelling. If you create a backstory, it is going to be part of that world, not just words on a page. If you roll with a blank-slate character, they will learn who they are through the experience and choices that come with adventuring. The plot will be setup, but once you hear "what do you do?" an entire world full of possibilities is open to you. To misquote a famous movie line, "where we're going, we don't need rails." The games I run are ones I have read through entirely cover to cover. I have been known to spend time researching specific interactions and mechanics. It is rare that homebrew will come up, as I prefer we all have access to the same set of rules, and run things as written. That said, the "rule of cool" is one I enjoy using when appropriate. Some key takeaways: Player-driven storytelling focusing on choice and consequence Inclusive to any and all: everyone deserves respect A handful of systems I have familiarity and comfort running A focus on sandbox storytelling to adapt to the play style of the adventurers Additional expansion content for the games I can run: Shadow of the Beanstalk, an Android setting book for the Genesys RPG. Edge of the Empire core rulebook, Force & Destiny core rulebook, & the 2 Clone Wars setting books for the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars RPG. The X-Men Expansion for the Marvel Multiverse RPG. Ironsworn: Delve, an expansion for Ironsworn. Sundered Isles, a seafaring expansion to Ironsworn: Starforged. The Morria expansion for The One Ring 2nd Edition. Monsters of the Multiverse, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, & The Sword Coast sourcebook for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Additional notes: For the game Ironsworn: The virtual tabletop Iron Fellowship which is designed for Ironsworn will be used. Ironsworn: Starforged & Sundered Isles: The virtual tabletop Crew Link which is designed for Ironsworn: Starforged will be used. Let's go adventuring together!
