About GreyWoulf (Adam)
Greetings and salutations! I am Adam and I have been playing TTRPGs off and on since Moldvay Basic D&D came out. Thankfully, I have been able to play almost as much as I have been the GM, but never as frequently as I would like. Personal favorites are Shadowrun, Star Wars (d6), Call of Cthulhu, and of course, D&D over its many iterations. (The only version I haven't played is 4e due to raising a family) I have both played and run games at conventions when I was younger which was awesome since it allowed me to meet so many other fans of this fantastic hobby. And it is still a great way to dip your toe into the vast pool that the hobby has exploded into. Cons are great to get inspiration and try new things. When I run games, I like to run a balance between established classic published adventures to start things off allowing characters to get comfortable in their skins. From there, I will weave in my own home brew to create an environment that is truly unique and guided by the players actions, choices, and back story. I don't run dark storylines but I do strive for tension and meaning. The goal is for us to have fun playing make believe together in a safe space away from the rest of the world. There is no room here for bias, judgement, or disrespect. So bring your love of exploration, chaos, and story to the table and let's see what kind of tapestry of lore we can create!

I got started GMing...
because my parents gave me the Basic boxed set and AD&D core books as gifts in same year. I convinced my friends to play and ran for them. Then met friends by bringing the books to school (Yes, I read them in class instead of paying attention)to advertise and we took turns running adventures.
My favorite books are
Everything that has stuck with me through my life. examples: All Discworld The Dresden Files The Cthulhu Mythos Chronicles of Amber Lord of Light World Mythology Dragonriders of Pern The Three Musketeers Steppenwolf Something Wicked This Way Comes The Black Company
My favorite shows/movies are
the classics as well as some oddballs - again too many to list more than a sampling The Mummy (Brendan Fraser) Star Trek (through DS9) Jojo's Bizarre Adventures 13th Warrior Zorro (Antonio Banderas) Zorro (old tv series) Superman (George Reeves) Red Dwarf Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (BBC tv)
How GreyWoulf (Adam) runs games
Exploration and curiosity are my touchstones. I strongly believe that narrativium is the foundational element of any great story no matter the scale. To that end, the Players are the driving force in my games. I reward roleplay and collaboration. I will always do my best to accommodate requests to include specific details depending on the scope of the story. Rule of Cool can overcome RAW as long as verisimilitude does not get nuked. I love when the players can come up with a suggestion that puts a scene over the top whether it be a conversation with an NPC or a dramatic shift in combat. I have embraced the fact that the scenes in my head are going to be overwritten by their actions... and the results are always better. With a strong influence from my earliest games - Combat is not always the best answer to an encounter - sometimes it is better to back out, close/block the door, then walk away very quickly while looking nonchalant. I tend to stay away from political intrigue except as a background motivator. So don't come to me for Game of Thrones king building. I am more action adventure oriented in my escapism. There will be more Indiana Jones adjacent stories involving learning about MacGuffins and saving the day through guts and wits.

I deal with rules issues by...
hearing quick player input then making a call and continuing the story. Questions are reviewed after the game and events will be modified at the next session if I feel it is needed. Player input to the decision is always welcome. All rulings will be noted to ensure continuity going forward.
I once ran a session...
of Shadowrun at a con with nothing more than partially written pregen characters that were Corp Agents. After I gave a fairly generic opening assignment, I just sat back and reacted to the players' choices as they wrote the story themselves. 3 runs, 3 different endings - SO much fun for all!
My games focus on...
having fun and organically growing a world together. Some of my best adventures have come about comic book style starting as seemingly unrelated one shots that were transformed by finding connections in hindsight which took things to a higher level.
GreyWoulf (Adam)'s ideal table
My table is casual but focused on the story. I expect respect and good manners from everyone towards everyone. Roleplaying is encouraged but not mandatory. Come join me with an open mind and willingness to be a bit silly and you'll fit in just fine. I am an Ally to all, and my table is a Safe Space.

I love it when a player
comes up with an unexpected solution that forces me to think before making a call. It is so cool to have to adapt a plan to accommodate an unforeseen choice, even if it does disrupt hours of planning. None of us can plan for everything, and these games reinforce that reality.
I think metagaming...
is unavoidable but not always bad. Originally D&D presumed characters shared basic skill knowledge with their players since the bleed was unavoidable. Bad meta is used for selfish or disruptive reasons. Good meta can be used to increase the drama and narrative.
I think min/maxing...
has it's place since theory crafting is fun to do and cool to test in play. However, if you negatively impact other players enjoyment in the process, the game play will be adjusted to foster inclusion. Also, min-max does lend itself to creating unexpected weaknesses that impact your own fun as well.
