About Godric

Greetings! I'm Godric, your friendly neighborhood GM. My table is my virtual living room, so make yourselves at home. Be creative, be kind, and have fun! For me, tabletop games are about more than rules. They’re about collaborating to create fantastic adventures together. That’s the magic of the experience: sharing in telling the story and deciding what happens next. I enjoy running games that are welcoming, fun, and family-friendly without being corny. I want players to relax, be creative, and share in the magic of the journey. My worlds can still be gritty and challenging, but players can feel comfortable taking risks, trying creative ideas, and seeing where the story leads.

I started running games because...

I love worldbuilding, telling stories, and doing funny accents and voices. Being a GM sits at the crossroads of all three. There’s something special about sharing your ideas with friends, then watching them run with something you created and make it their own in a new and interesting way.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Pathfinder 2e, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4e, and The One Ring 2e. D&D 5e is lots of fun, but kind of basic in the sense that it would probably be the most straightforward to run without the books. If I'm going to be marooned, I would want something my players and I could really sink our teeth into.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

My players describe me as immersive, creative, and improvisational. I try to craft living worlds filled with believable cultures and characters with realistic motivations and quirks. I want my players to escape the daily grind and lose themselves in a compelling fantasy world for a few hours.

How Godric runs games

Welcome to my table! I'm a patient, supportive GM who welcomes beginners and veterans alike. I run fantasy adventures with deep, meaningful choices, rich worldbuilding, and NPCs with unique voices and personalities. I build familiar fantasy worlds that are grounded and immersive, filled with memorable characters, ancient mysteries, and danger! My games have a "grim-hope" aesthetic: the settings can be perilous and harsh, but courage, compassion, and the choices you make can still change the world. Expect challenging but fair encounters, rewarding exploration for the curious, and stories where your decisions have real consequences. I recognize that the world can be a rough place these days, and my games offer players a chance to step away from the daily grind, explore new worlds, and experience creative catharsis through collaborative storytelling. Together, we can confront challenges, discover hidden mysteries, and create memorable adventures in a welcoming environment where everyone has a place at the table. I have three main ground rules: be creative, be kind, and have fun!

I once ran a session...

Picture a dark cavern inhabited by a massive, hungry sea-drake. The players cleverly jury-rigged a bomb from gunpowder, alchemist’s fire, and hard liquor, stashed it on a rowboat, and sent it hurtling down the monster’s gullet! Only afterward did they discover the creature could regenerate.

Rules are...

Rules are a challenge engine. They establish the limits of what your characters can do. Without limits, there’s no challenge... and no fun. Rules keep the playing field even, but on rare occasions, when the moment is right, they can absolutely be transcended. This is fantasy, after all.

When it comes to voices

I use many different voices, accents, and vocal quirks for my characters to help each feel distinct and interesting. I find it helps build immersion for everyone. If my players want to do they same, they are welcome to find a unique voice for their characters as well, but it's not mandatory.

Godric's ideal table

My table is welcoming, inclusive, and collaborative. We’re here to have a good time, tell a great story, and enjoy the game together. A little chaos and good-natured teasing are always welcome, but we always leave any hostility, bullying, or trolling at the door. As the two great ones once said, "Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes."

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you like immersive, gritty fantasy settings where the world is dangerous but never hopeless, I think you’ll fit right in. I like to run grounded, engaging adventures with real challenges where the heroes can fail, but courage, cleverness, and good humor can still make a big difference.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player comes up with crazy, innovative ideas for their character's narrative arc. Unexpected motivations and schemes are terrific. Sure, buy a stagecoach with a cannon mounted on top! If it’s creative and fun and we can all make it work, I will totally help bring your ideas to life.

I think it's a red flag when players...

When players are more interested in winning by gaming the system rather than telling a good story, that's a bit of a red flag. Min-maxing, metagaming, and other cunning techniques have their place, but the best victories are those earned through clever role-playing.
