About Jakob

I am an American expat in Asia who runs games for other English speakers in Asian time zones. I learned GM-ing back in the early 2000's playing D&D 3.5 with my friends in middle school. I was the first in the group to take up the mantle of GM and really enjoyed it and have been running games off and on ever since. Professionally, I have worked as a video game designer, a librarian assistant, and as a teacher. All of these jobs have given me skills and experiences that combine into a really great skillset for a GM. I've also lived in 8 different cities around the world which has helped me to get out of my comfort zone and forge new friendships with people from all walks of life.

Featured Prompts

When I'm not running games I'm...

Spending time with my friends and family, playing pickleball, or watching an unhealthy amount of American College Football and football related podcasts.

How Jakob runs games

I enjoy a good mix of roleplay and social encounters as well as tactical combat. It always depends on the context of the adventure and the vibe at the table but I try to keep a good balance between epic combat with light hearted interactions between players and NPCs.

I prep by

plundering my digital library of old TTRPG books and maps to generate ideas and inspiration, then putting fingers to keyboard and designing interesting situations for characters to engage with.

Rules are...

an important feature of a TTRPG and should be adhered to or discarded consistently and with reasoning. At the end of the day we should err on the side of fun and epic adventure!
