About Jimmy

Hi I'm James, a lover of stories who has been a GM for more than 20 years. I started with 2nd Edition Dungeons and Dragons and have run games in many systems since, including D&D 3rd/3.5, Pathfinder 1st Edition, D20 Modern, G.U.R.P.S., Blades in the Dark, and of course lots of D&D 5E and similar games like Nimble. I have run games in many genres and settings and I love making homebrew worlds with the input of the players and then tailoring the story to their interests and goals.

I got started GMing...

after playing my first campaign and falling in love with TTRPGs over 20 years ago. My friends asked if I would like to run the next game and I dove in and still haven't stopped!

How Jimmy runs games

I love to tailor games to the players in them including asking players for input on the setting and building a story that will allow players to take turns in the spotlight and complete their character's goals. I love roleplay and immersion but I also enjoy designing fun combat encounters to the degree of difficulty the party prefers. From easy to brutal, I try to keep combat exciting by making varying goals and objectives instead of always hitting enemies down to zero HP. I am very player permissive in the way that I allow for things not explicitly stated in the rules as long as it does not harm the fun of another player. The Rule of Cool applies and creative problem solving is always rewarded.

Jimmy's ideal table

My table is relaxed and inclusive. This is a no pressure environment where you can roleplay your character (and be yourself!) without judgement. Immersion is a focus but you don't have to do voices to roleplay, just react to the world and the story and treat each other with respect.

I love it when a player

makes choices based on what their character would do or comes up with a creative, outside the box approach to an in game problem.
