About Martin / Moo
I've been playing and GMing for over 30 years now, with my first introduction to roleplaying being my mum GMing for my brother, dad and I during the summer holidays. We had been given the Basic D&D Red and Blue boxed sets for Xmas and hadn't gotten around to reading them yet, but the funny Cockney voice mum did for a captured Kobold we were interrogating it sealed the deal! "Aw 'Govnor, please don't 'urt me. Oi'll tell you everyfink!" I went on to GM for a group of friends during lunch times at High School, then played and GM'd at Glasgow University Gaming Society (GUGS) in the late '90's, helped to form Hursley Gaming Society (HuGS) at IBM in the early 2000's, and so on. I generally do D&D or fantasy of some sort, and have played or GM'd a wide variety of rules systems and genres including WHFRP, Call of Chthulu, Changeling, Alien, d20 Modern, Star Wars (d6 and d20 rules), Blades in the Dark, GURPS, TORG, BESM, Golden Heroes, and many more.

I got started GMing...
after my mum GM'd for me as a teenager and roleplayed a Kobold with a hilarious cockney accent!
My favorite books are
fantasy obviously! Terry Pratchett, Raymond E Feist, Anne McCaffrey, David Gemmel
When I'm not running games I'm...
usually playing computer games (7 Days to Die, Enshrouded, Valheim) or walking my dog (Sophie, Springer Spaniel)
How Martin / Moo runs games
Adventures I run tend to be homebrew. Something interesting or unusual is going on, and it's up to the players/characters to investigate and get involved. I love it when players help bring the world to life with their own ideas and suggestions, and try to incorporate their ideas and requests into the world. I feel that rules systems are there to give guidelines, structure and balance to the table. They are a framework for interacting with the world, but should not be the be-all and end-all of a game. I'm very happy to help new players get the hang of things, and help anyone to develop their character, background and role-playing to give them a richer playing experience.

I prep by
having the core stuff prepared, but always expecting the players to throw some sort of spanner in the works and do something I never thought of!
My games focus on...
story-telling and having fun. I provide the window into the world and some interesting plot things going on. You get to decide what comes next!
Rules are...
there to provide structure around having fun. I like to follow them where possible and sensible, but not against ignoring them if it's cinematic or makes the game better.
Martin / Moo's ideal table
I like a relaxed table, one where the players are there to have fun, work (mostly) with each other, and progress the plot. I love players who are engaged and participating in the game, while still being considerate of each other allowing everyone to fully take part in the game. Occasional digressions and a bit of banter are also a welcomed part of the experience at my table. Some of the funniest things I've ever heard were OOC comments at a roleplaying game!

I love it when a player
has a well rounded character to play, with a personality, likes, dislikes, flaws, a bit of back story and maybe some baggage. Something interesting about them that would make them a hero, stand out in a crowd, or interesting to be around.
I think metagaming...
is unavoidable, but should be consciously kept to a minimum if we all can (GM's can metagame too!). It breaks the immersion in the world and ultimately changes the focus of a game from participating and enjoying the experience, to 'winning the game'.
I think min/maxing...
... and complicated multi-class combos designed to bend the rules system to the point of breaking are not the greatest thing for a player to be focusing on. I prefer a 'character' rather than the 'stats' to be what's being brought to the table by a player.
