About Jacob

I've had my feet wet with TTRPGs since the 80's, and started DM'ing in the mid 90's. I've played and GM'd with lots of systems and playstyles since then. I love helping others author their own experiences. I don't play as much heroic-power fantasy now-a-days, but there is nothing wrong with that, and I love to dabble in it occasionally. Now, I *usually* favor RPGs that shoot for more grounded human narratives. My current favorites are Call of Cthulhu, Ten Candles, Paranoia, & Kids on Bikes/Tales from the Loop, but I love to play and host others!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

I am sort of cheating, but my answers are... 1. Basic Roleplaying System (Call of Cthulhu) for a skill-based crunchiness. 2. Year Zero Platform for its mix of simplicity and versatility for different games systems like Alien, Tales from the Loop. 3. Ten Candles for its creativity.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Immersive, collaborative, and inviting.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Planning for the next session... okay, but also writing, drawing, cycling, and gosh, I guess I need to say working too.

Jacob's ideal table

I want my players to have *good* time. Usually this means that we all are going to have a *fun* time too, but it all depends what all the players at the table want to do with the story. I want players to experience challenges through the unfolding of a story, some of which may prove analogous and/or cathartic to real world struggles, prejudice, norms, etc. This sort of thing will only be in the game, in the story and characters, not between the actual players. The goal is for everyone to have a good time, and boundaries that preserve that will be respected. No game, story, or rule is too sacred that it warrants a players having a bad time. That being said: expect the employ of safety tools and procedures to that end. Players of all-sorts should feel wanted and seen at the games that I host. So, expect that the table will be a safe space to be who you are, regardless of gender, attractions, race, age, and/or different types of physical or mental challenges you experience. I foster a stage that accepts you for who you are, and if another player threatens that, they will be warned or shown the door.
