How Gigachad DM (Thomas) runs games

I primarily use Theater of the Mind, as I believe the true essence of the game lies within our imaginations rather than on virtual tabletops. However, I’m flexible and can incorporate VTTs if requested by the players. One of my key focuses is helping players create rich backstories and seamlessly integrating their characters into the world. I go to great lengths to ensure that backstories aren’t just stories of the past; they actively influence the ongoing narrative. Sometimes the past comes back to haunt characters—or help them—in unexpected ways, adding depth and excitement to our adventures. (Of course, not all characters lived exciting lives before their adventures, and that’s perfectly fine too!) I encourage players to fully immerse themselves in their characters, including roleplaying how they kill enemies and customizing the appearance of their abilities for flavor. Want your entangle spell to look like ice trapping your foes instead of vines, or your fireball to burn green? Go for it! As long as the stats remain unchanged, the visual flair is up to you. I’m open to all types of players, whether you’re RP-heavy, a Min-Maxer, or somewhere in between. While I don’t voice act my characters, I encourage players to bring their characters to life in whatever way feels right for them. I also allow all official DnD content, including races, classes, and subclasses. I welcome all types of character sheets, whether you use DnD Beyond or physical copies. Personally, I prefer owning the physical books and like to promote that play style as well. I also encourage players to use their physical dice, and it’s always fun to have a dice camera! To ensure a high-quality experience, I use a studio mic and webcam and promote others to do the same.
