About me
I've been playing in and running tabletop games for over 20 years. I started gamemastering as a way to keep connected with friends as we all grew into our busy adult lives. Over time, my collection of RPG materials has grown, and with that growth I also want to share all of these great games and adventures with the wider gaming community. There are so many amazing artists and designers who create incredible RPG stories and gaming experiences. I want to share them, explore them, and bring them to life at the gaming table.
GM Style
I primarily enjoy the OSR style of play, which emphasizes creative problem solving and PC-driven action, but I am always looking to expand my GMing skills through new systems and styles. I'm most experienced in classic fantasy games, where adventuring, exploring, and fighting monsters are the main drives of the game. I prefer a low-to-mid fantasy setting, but high fantasy is still a blast in it's own way. I don't have much experience with mystery or horror games, but I've been dying to try my hand at them. In any case, I like systems with fast, deadly combat and interesting magic. For style, I usually opt for theater of the mind, coupled with images for important encounters, places, and NPCs, and I'll break out the battle maps and figures for more complex encounters. If we're doing a straight up dungeon-crawl, then we very likely could use a map and tokens for the whole session. VTTs and Discord make it incredibly easy to use images and maps for encounters, and I have a good collection for just that. I enjoy an immersive experience at the table, where we act as if the world is real and like our characters are real people inhabiting that world. I don't enforce character acting, but I do enjoy it from time to time. I'll use character voices when the moment feels right, but I'm just as likely to narrate an NPC's response if it seems more important to move on with the story. In terms of game structure, I like to let the interests of the players shape the structure and story of the game. For brand new players, I'll usually pick a starter module or adventure I've run before and just focus on helping the players learn and have fun. For more experienced or long-term groups, I note the player interactions with the game world and dial up the elements they enjoy interacting with. For example, If the table enjoys travel and exploration, then we'll use a more in-depth system for exploring and interacting with the wilderness - if the table just wants to get to the adventure site to get on with the quest, then we'll do some event rolls for the journey and fast-forward to the parts we care about. Either way, the story of the game is built around the decisions the players make and the adventures their characters embark on. As the GM, I like to provide setups and hooks for the players, but I also encourage the group to come up with their own plans for glory and adventure. After that, I use the game rules and the player actions to determine how the world reacts and reshapes around the party.
