About Rowan

Hi! My name is Rowan Dakota. I've been playing TTRPGs since I was a child and I've been DMing since I was about 15. I wanted (and still want to) become a better DM/GM and so took several acting classes in college. After graduating, I took several improv classes. People say I am a very good DM. I think they are correct. Also! I grew up on a hippie commune called Twin Oaks. It isn't utopia but I had a good life there. In other news, I love dogs, I'm getting more into cats, and my favorite color is blue. Okay! I hope we play some fun games and tell some good stories together!

I got started GMing...

Because no one else was doing it! My friends and I had just finished a years long campaign that was so much fun, and then we just stopped playing D&D! I wanted to play more D&D so I just started running games. I was pretty garbage at first but I kept at it. Now I'm pretty good!

My favorite books are

Anything by Ted Chiang. Neil Gaiman books (I know he's problematic but he writes really well). And Terry Pratchett. I used to own all of his books.

My favorite system of all Time is

I really liked Never Stop Blowing Up (the system that they used for a Dimension 20 series). My girlfriend ran a game using that system and I found it really fun. I ran a slight mod of it where instead of rolling dice you had a stack of cards that you pulled from. And then you could add/remove cards.

How Rowan runs games

I love roleplay but I also love combat. I think what I love most is taking the ideas my players have and making stories off of them. I can for sure do games where I make everything and the players are just along for the ride but I truly love it the most when it's a collaborative journey we take together.

Going over my notes from the previous session and progressing on each thing. I kinda try to have a story line going for each PC and a grand over arching story line. That doesn't always workout, though.

Fun! We are here to have a good time. Does that mean we'll always be laughing? No! Sometimes very serious or even sad things in the game can be very cathartic. You can't have joy without sorrow. That being said, I try to pursue joy in my games.
