About Oliver
I have been playing (mostly DMing) tabletop roleplaying games since roughly 1985 and have never found an activity that I enjoy more. Not just a D&D aficionado (though I have played every edition of that game), I have significant experience with at least 20 roleplaying systems, ranging from sci-fi to horror. A former teacher, I excel at describing settings, explaining rules, and making those at my table comfortable. I try to keep things appropriately serious, when the situation calls for it, but mostly I aim to make sure everyone's smiling and having a good time, so expect to laugh at my table. Though I prefer to play in person, I have run and played in several online games and know how to make sure the technology keeps up with the fun of the game. I can't wait to see some new faces at the table!

My favorite books are
heroic fantasy. I really enjoy young adult novels because they tend to be about good v evil, without the "grittiness" of some modern fantasy novels.
People are always surprised when I tell them
that I grew up in South Florida. I'm not sure what they're expecting, but I'm not it.
How Oliver runs games
I am firm believer that roleplaying games allow players to pretend to do things that they couldn't do in real life. Mostly, for me, that means being heroic and valorous, defying the odds, and working together to rescue the prince or princess from the tower guarded by the dragon. Not to say that the adventures shouldn't be original or break new ground, but I present pretty standard Good v Evil adventures. Players in games should expect to play valorous (though perhaps flawed) heroes working to make the world better for the weaker folks. I don't run "evil campaigns" and don't enjoy "gritty" or morally ambiguous stories. Inter-player conflict and differing agendas are fine, where everyone is interested in defeating evil. Inter-player combat is not something I enjoy adjudicating or dealing with at all, honestly. I want to make sure everyone at my table is having a blast at all times.
Oliver's ideal table
My table is fun and often funny, but I try to keep everyone focused on the story. Those who can make an occasional quip and then immediately redirect themselves to roleplaying and the plot do well at my table.
