About Ben (Echoes Of The Past)

I've always loved creative writing, but found the greatest enjoyment in writing interactive pieces and creating worlds. I've DM'ed for several friend groups' campaigns as well as one-shots for my family, and have been doing so off and on since 2012. I have experience teaching people new to D&D, as well as playing with people who are experienced; I'm happy to welcome people from any experience level. I work with players to make sure everyone enjoys the game and narrative, and I'm open to suggestions from the group about the tone of the story; funny/very loose playing to serious high-fantasy adventures, and anywhere in between. In many of my games, I like introducing extra mechanics to fill in world details, direct the story, and develop the characters throughout the adventure. In my personal life, I am a biomedical scientist, I enjoy video games, exercise, reading, RPGs, and I've been working on making a podcast.

That I started playing D&D in 3rd grade, using the AD&D system! My parents met playing D&D while they were in school, so they passed their love of the game to my siblings and I

Planning games, exercising, or doing science! I love games of all sorts, I enjoy a good workout, and I'm a biomedical researcher as my "real" job

How Ben (Echoes Of The Past) runs games

A big part of many of my games is adding in hints to larger things afoot in the world; some of these are relevant to the plot and some of them aren't. I really enjoy worldbuilding before the game starts, but filling in details as I figure out what works for the players and the story over time. If the group wants goofy, you never know when you'll have to appease a celestial giraffe to save the world; if the group wants serious, you just may find your party suffering the wrath of an immortal being or scrambling to stop a warlord tearing through the continent. Many of my games also follow a sort of mini-quest module system, similar to The Adventure Zone: Balance. Players will go through several smaller quests/adventures that can lead to a much larger adventure, where subtle hints culminate together for a dramatic finale.
