About me

I'm the GM for the Hammer of the Gods Podcast, and I've been running games for more than two decades.

GM Style

Big on RP, a little more loosey goosey with mechanics because story comes first in my opinion. Not a huge fan of crunch, but I do enjoy the randomness of rolling (although I am more than happy to tell you there's no need to roll for plenty of things).

I played in Rick's Ghosts of Bitterroot campaign for W5 and I am not even sure where to begin in singing their praises. From the very start of the game, they painted a rich, detailed, and atmospheric session and setting that kept the suspension of disbelief up the whole game. Rick is an amazing storyteller that provided an entertaining and evocative world to play with, while maintaining a good pace. Every player at the table got a spotlight and safety was tantamount to the experience. Rick's style was enviably and smooth. Their ability to roll with the unhinged while keeping the story moving still has me in awe. Rick runs a game without any seams or wires, just an enjoyable romp without any admin or mechanical nonsense to get in the way. I want to book every single slot Rick has available, so I recommend to anyone reading this: you'd better be fast and lucky to beat me to their table!

Rick is patience with new players to new systems, they make an inclusive and safe space to play. Also great with chaos gremlins. They build off of the creativity of players very well and encourage creativity of players. They have great tools for determining everyone's comfortability levels with all types of topics. The goal of their games is for everyone to have fun! So they will often adjust things more for the fun than technicalities or dice rolls, but still maintain dice rolls where necessary. They create cool visual aides to help with story telling whether it's a video explaining the premise of the game being played or some fun visuals to help you get set in the mood and tone of the story, These visuals will often be present in the background. Personally, I find their stories are always immersive, and you find yourself caught up in the story telling.

This was my first time playing a vampire the Masquerade session and Rick was incredibly helpful during character creation and super chill. During the session everyone was quickly put at ease and roleplay and storytelling were so well done by all. They focused on fun and telling an interesting story and really had a great handle on the rules even though they put the story front and center.
