About Ethan

Hi! I'm Ethan. I've been playing 5e as my IRL groups' forever DM for a few years now, but must feed my growing addiction. I look forward to facilitating your various shenanigans one day, and inspiring dread the next. To help with that, I bring my ever growing collection of Kickstarted options from people much better at balancing than me.

Featured Prompts

I became a GM because

I enjoy telling stories and springing surprises.

My favorite books are

Interesting worlds. Some of my favorites are the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong.

My favorite shows/movies are

Big fan of early Supernatural and Fringe. Greatly enjoying The Legend of Vox Machina and the new Mighty Nein series, and Doom Patrol. Recent movies include Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, Weapons, and The Naked Gun reboot

How Ethan runs games

Happy to work around players with different playstyles to make sure everyone gets involved. Rules-flexible style of trying to stay consistent with rulings, but wanting to encourage players to try whatever they think would be fun without fear of being too heavily punished. If nobody thinks something is fun, and it's not needed, change it.

Featured Prompts

I once ran a session...

Where an archer and a guard got into a very pathetic wrestling match rather than get arrested, embarrassing everyone involved.

Rules are...

A great structure to build upon.

When it comes to voices

I do my best, whether you like it or not.

Ethan's ideal table

I like to encourage more character interactions amongst each other rather than with NPCs, you'll be together for the longest after all. My tables would be best fit for those wanting to have serious or tense moments in character, both in exploration and dialogue, but sometimes things just naturally become silly or absurd. Every game wants to be Lord of the Rings, but will inevitably end up Monty Python sooner or later.

I am for a vibe that's...

Relaxed and carefree, but sobers up when the story needs it.

I love it when a player

Comes up with an interesting thing to do in combat, even if it's not as efficient as "I stand there and hit the thing."

I think min/maxing...

Isn't the end of the world if it's not ruining the experience for others, and the player isn't trying to "win" the game.
