About Dream Roll DM
Hi friends! My name is Austin, I've been a professional theatre and TV actor for 20 years, and a role playing fan for nearly as long! However, when video game rpgs could no longer scratch the itch, I dived into ttrpgs in 2017 and haven't looked back. I've run many multi-year campaigns for friends, both in person and online, and I'm excited to make take the leap into professional GMing! Take a look at the Dream Roll Gaming channel on YouTube, a short-lived but very rewarding project I had with a few actor friends of mine. In those videos you can get a sense of my style as a GM. I prefer games with an open-ended world which sets problems for the player characters, and lets the plot unfold as a consequence of their behavior. If you are looking for a space to bring a character to life and to have a hand in crafting a world, I'm your guy.

I became a GM because
none of my friends will play improv games with me otherwise.
My favorite shows/movies are
The LotR trilogy of course! I do the full marathon at least once a year. It's too bad they never made a film adaptation of The Hobbit...
When I'm not running games I'm...
either working my day job as "Wine Guy" at a local winery, or I'm playing the game of auditioning! Self tape auditions are my best friend and worst enemy!
How Dream Roll DM runs games
I am a character-first, roleplay centered GM. Players will meet fascinating and three dimensional NPCs with individual and mutually exclusive worldviews. Game sessions are well paced and keep the focus on narrative instead of wheel-spinning. And maybe most importantly to me, I collaborate with players to make their characters feel integrally weaved into the world I've created. In my games, the characters dictate the story, their backgrounds are woven artfully into the plot, and their flaws are tested in the most dire circumstances. I frequently utilize Czepeku imagery and PocketBard music and ambient sound to deliver an immersive experience for eyes and ears! But don't get the impression that I am an all-fluff, no-crunch GM. I have a near encyclopedic knowledge of my chosen system (2014 5e DnD), and we will never have to waste precious game time on page flipping and rules adjudicating. Combat is dynamic, and the enemies want to win.

My games focus on...
the players! The PCs are the star of the show and the way that the characters change the world and change each other is the best part of table top rpgs.
When it comes to voices
I tend to go crazy with the voices. They are welcome from players but not at all required and you should not feel pressure to "perform" in any way in my games! The point is to create characters, but that doesn't have to include acting them out!
Dream Roll DM's ideal table
I love a table of proactive players that will engage with each other's characters and form meaningful relationships, and players that will take charge and lead the narrative where they want it to go! The moments where I as a DM get to sit back and watch the story unfold are the best moments.

I think min/maxing...
is pefectly welcome! As long as it is motivated by something in-universe and as long as I can use it as a way to hook your character into the narrative.
My table is not the place for...
hack and slash, or beer and pretzel games. My games can be very light hearted and occasionally very goofy, but I work better when all involved have a sense of investment and buy-in to the story.
