About Trevar
Greetings! My name is Trevar, and I was introduced to TTRPGs in 2020 by one of my best friends. From the first moments of that game’s beginning, that dragon sank its talons into me and set aflame a passion that burns bright to this day. I realized in that time this was something that I should have started playing long, long ago, and now it has become one of my primary pursuits in life. Aside from running games, I am a key contributor to The DM Lair's monthly Lair Magazine and their book, The Secret Art of Game Mastery. I am also dabbling in my own game design, as well as publishing my own TTRPG materials under my own brand, Dramatic Dragons.

My favorite system of all Time is

How Trevar runs games
I am a huge believer in the "Roleplaying" part of RPGs. I also like to design encounters that will challenge players, but usually provide ways for them to succeed. Don't be afraid to create a unique approach to address different situations! I'm also open to feedback regarding how rules should be interpreted. Disagree on a ruling and have a different interpretation of the rules with evidence? Let's discuss quickly to align in the moment, then move on and review it later for clarity. Note: Once a final ruling has been made in game, we stick to it (no rules lawyer debates).

I deal with rules issues by...
Check quickly for an answer - if it takes more than a minute, we rule and check for accuracy later. The most important part of the game is being able to play; if we spend too much time deep-diving into minutia, then the point of the game is missed. So unless it's quick to review, we move on!
My games focus on...
Character Roleplay - I want what happens to be true to your character. Feel free to metagame, but draw a clear line of "I know this, but my character doesn't, so here's what happens...." To me, that's the most exciting aspect and the most fun to have in game!
Rules are...
The Foundation of the Game - however, they can always be built upon or ignored if something better or more imaginative comes along! The Rule of Cool exists to make the session more epic and fun, and I am happy to disregard a rule if I think something will be made better by it in the moment.
Trevar's ideal table
People who love to delve into their characters' mindset are key. That doesn't mean you need special voices or mannerisms, but play true to your character's personality and thought process! At the same time, combat is a key aspect of the game, so be ready to shift gears to gritty and deadly battle at times!

I love it when a player
Builds Character Flaws Intentionally - does your character have a phobia, or they have an attribute that is significantly lower than all the rest? This enables them to be balanced characters, and much more interesting well-rounded! Play up your character's strengths, but highlight their flaws, too!
I think metagaming...
Is Fine - but separate what you the player know and what you the character know. Play true to what your character sees/recalls, even if you know better. Do you know that a Nat 1 on Perception means there's likely a trap? Of course you do. But your character is confident that there isn't, so....
My table is not the place for...
Rules Lawyering - don't try to find the loopholes to get away with something, don't bog down the session by looking up everything and correcting it. If you spend more time looking over rules than portraying your character, you've lost the spirit of the game!
