About Dominic

I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since elementary school, and I began to DM 5e during my four years at college. Now that I have graduated, I am looking for more opportunities to play and find friends through the game, as well as to make additional money beyond what my day-to-day job provides. My games tend to be 40% role play, 40% combat, and 20% exploration, taking place in a world that lives and breathes beyond the scope of the party's awareness, leaving it up to the party to engage with it as they please. While many aspects of the world and game may have a face-value similarity to canon adventures and lore, I incorporate sociological, psychological, and philosophical themes into the world and game, making them my own. Now, all I hope is to find other individuals to share in what I have made, and to bring their own unique contributions into a even greater story.

How Dominic runs games

General Playstyle and Expectations: Each session will begin on time with a recap of the previous session and whatever relevant info the party may want to bring up from earlier on, and will last between 3 and 4 hours with a 10-15 minute break approximately halfway through. I am a neutral good DM, sticking to the rules-as-written for the most part while modifying and adding in rules that I believe will serve to balance and enhance both the narrative and mechanical aspects of DND 5e. I generally don't allow homebrew that I don't create myself, but as the game progresses and opportunities arise, I am happy to indulge in homebrew and the 'Rule of Cool' so long as it doesn't upset the balance I strive to keep to allow for more fluid and flexible fun. Both new and experienced players are welcome, as I prioritize player engagement and fun over anything else, and I am happy to help explain and clarify rules and abilities whenever anyone finds themselves struggling. I am also open to feedback and constructive criticism, as both help me become a better DM and facilitate a better game, and I also have a list of topics that players are welcome to add to that I will keep out of the game, which will be reviewed in free sessions 0 (general campaign info and group introductions) and 0.5 (individual character creation/discussion). 40% Role Play: Speaking in character (first person, "I") is preferred, with minor narration used situationally, character voices are not required but will be utilized by me for most NPCs, which range from complex characters/motivations to simple/functional roles, and backstories will be incorporated into the story but should be kept relatively simple. 40% Combat: I modify and homebrew many monster stat blocks but will never change abilities or stats once the session begins, rolls are never fudged which means that the dice gods dictate how combat goes and that death is a real possibility for the party should fate will it to be so, many (but not all) combats can lead to characters going down or being killed, though I am always rooting for the party to prevail. 20% Exploration: Somewhat mixed in with role play and combat, the world is fleshed out with characters and lore that can and will be explored over the course of the game as the party's reach grows with the experience and prestige gained through adventuring.
