About Adam Scaramella

What to say... Well, I've been playing TTRPGs since my cousin gave me a copy of the 1st edition D&D Players Handbook and the Blue Box. While I've mostly played and run D&D, I've dabbled in many other games, like GURPS, various editions of Star Wars RPGs, and a few home-brew systems, just to name a few. I like to think that the exposure makes me a stronger player and GM, since many of them show different perspectives on how to approach our "sport". I've also written a few adventures. You can look me up on DMsGuild and DriveThruRPG if you're interested. I'm currently running my games on FoundryVTT, although I don't delve too deeply into the automation. I maintain a Discord server for my games and use that for voice.

How Adam Scaramella runs games

What to expect in my games? Well, a lot depends on what you want to bring to it. I am always happy to work with players to work their ideas into the story we are trying to tell. Even if your idea doesn't fit in perfectly, there's usually something we can work through that gets to the spirit of what you want to do. And if you're just looking to show up and roll dice, well, that works too. The goal is for everyone to have fun. As far as whether I favor social interaction, conflicts, or exploration, a lot depends on the system and story we're looking to play. I believe very much in establishing expectations at the beginning of the campaign or story to ensure that people are aware of what they are walking into and can adapt accordingly. How do I handle the balance between "rules as written", "rules as intended", and "rule of fun"? Great question, I'm glad you asked. I've always looked at the rules as what sets everyone's expectations as to how the game is supposed to work. But sometimes, they aren't written cleanly, or they don't quite make sense when you apply other rules. I believe that's where 'rules as intended' and 'rule of fun' comes in. What makes sense? If I'm in the middle of a game, I'll err towards rule of fun, and we can figure out what makes sense between games.
