About Heather

Welcome adventurers! I’m Heather (she/they), an Australian trans femme dungeon master with a background in creative writing, live performance, and diversity education. I specialise in running Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition for people of all experience levels, ages, identities, disabilities, and neurodiversities. My games draw inspiration from all kinds of media from anime and actual play to classic high fantasy literature and mythology. The magic of D&D to me is that every session I get to be surprised and thrilled by the stories we get to tell together. I’ve played with people of all different experience levels from wizened veterans to nervous newbies and get a lot of joy from both teaching the rules and learning from feedback. To me the job of a dungeon master is to create a world that combines each player’s favourite part of the game, as well as facilitating a safe environment where we all get to explore, experiment, and most importantly have fun!

playing games, watching movies, or listening to audiobooks or podcasts. I’m always interested in talking about media and what kinds of stories inspire you.

How Heather runs games

I would describe my style as very player/character driven. For me combat, role-play, and exploration are all fun in different ways so I like to ask in Session 0 what each player’s preferences are and adjust as we go. Since its release I’ve been running the updated 2024 rules Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition and I stay up to date with the latest books and official resources. In game I’m always going to reward player collaboration and creativity with a combination of Rules as Written and Rule of Cool to suit each party. My only requirement is that your character wants to be heroic and part of a team though this can still obviously be complex or challenging for them. I prefer not DMing for outright evil characters or PVP so if that’s what you’re looking for my style probably won’t suit you.

Heather's ideal table

My ideal table is filled with engaged players invested in their characters and the world. I like to create a somewhat grounded setting but with plenty of room for humour and creativity. The most important thing for me is that we treat each other with openness and respect. Also I do really appreciate feedback and try to promptly respond to any questions or queries you may have between sessions. Playing this game is my favourite thing in the world and I can’t wait to meet you and your adventurer!
