About Dario

I'm a 46 years old nerd. Been playing D&D since the late 90's. Love the community, how it grew in size and diversity. I'm a big fan of the potential of this game, and I can even say it's somewhat of a mild obsession.

I became a GM because

I realised I liked it more than being a player. And my favourite thing in the game is to build worlds and see what happens when others interact with them, how it changes and evolves.

My favorite books are

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I've read them through and through a couple times. It's without a doubt my biggest influence when it comes to world building.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually I'm painting minis or building terrain and dioramas. If not, I'll be reading fantasy or writing a situation for a game I'll be running soon.

How Dario runs games

In my games I usually try to touch on each aspect of the game, one session might be more social, the next more exploration and one geared more towards combat. But as often as possible, I will try to cover all 3 basic pillars of D&D.

I prep by

Coming up with a situation, figuring out what is reasonable for a given session, trying to keep in mind the player character's abilities. I never prep for outcomes, I prep for chaos!

My games focus on...

Character development. I strongly believe that a characters arc is more important then the world events.

Rules are...

important, until they're not. I prefer to run my games by the rules, but occasionally, the rules are required to bend under the players decision and actions.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

through their character, shows interest in other characters development. I love it when players support eachother, even and especially, when it's not the most optional action and/or decision.

I think metagaming...

is not an issue! There's only one bad kind of metagaming: using under the table knowledge to exploit characters above the table.

I think min/maxing...

is fine! An optimised character is as valid as a under optimised or a joke character. That is a player choice, always valid. Unless it goes against the settings parameters, which usually never does.
