About Adhemar

Hi, I'm Oliver! Like a lot of people on here, I started playing ttrpgs in my teens when a friend of mine needed more people to play with. Since then I've both played in and hosted many an adventure. Some were long and elaborate, some were short and sweet. Some were serious and stuffed with lore, some were downright absurd. From beyond the shining stars to the depths of the sea, I've enjoyed this particular medium of storytelling more than any other, and I hope to share that love with my players! I come from a background in theater, so my games tend to be more story and character-based. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy a bit of min-maxing so as to kick ass in combat. But at the end of the day, I've played beside a lot of different people with a lot of different play styles, so as long as everyone is getting creative and having fun, that's all that matters to me.

I became a GM because

I love telling stories, and ttrpgs are one of the most unique and fun ways to do that.

My favorite books are

Chris Paolini, Tolkein (duh), Samantha Shannon.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing video games, reading books, watching anime. Pretty much anything to immerse myself in other worlds.

How Adhemar runs games

In my games you can expect a primarily story-driven experience with lots of lore and world building to discover. I come from a theater background and have solid improv experience, so I also really enjoy being tested by players who want to talk to every NPC and explore every nook and cranny to see if they're fleshed out. Even if it's not yet written down, there will be a unique experience around every corner. I'm also a big fan of narrative video games and Souls games especially, so you can expect a lot of lore that you can choose to uncover in order to deepen your understanding and immersion in the story. With regards to combat, I try to make things interesting, and design encounters that feel grounded and engaging, but I am not necessarily a master of tactics by any means (I don't think I've used partial cover even once, for example). I am a fairly by-the-book GM, BUT if you have a unique or creative idea that you're passionate about for a character or an action you want to take, I will almost never say no as long as it's not game-breaking. And at the end of the day, as long as everyone at the table is comfortable and having fun, I'm happy to run most any style of table that my players and I decide together works best.

Rules are...

We go mostly by the book, but if you have a cool idea that doesn't fit within the written rules I will almost certainly be down for it.

When it comes to voices

Highly encouraged but not at all necessary! I love doing voices myself, but as long as you're having fun that's all that matters to me, voices or no :)

Adhemar's ideal table

I've always run fairly casual-vibes tables but with an emphasis on the story and characters we're playing. Don't expect for everything to be in character all the time, there's always some room for meta jokes and such. That being said, I am fairly flexible with what kinda of tables I feel comfortable running, and how serious or not the vibes will be is something I like to discuss at the beginning of any new adventure. If you like to just chat and hang out with a bit of dice rolling on the side, that works! If you prefer to try to stay in character and be serious as much as possible, I am also down for that! Part of the reason I started on here was to have the chance to play with a wider variety of people and playstyles.

I love it when a player

Thinks outside the box and comes up with a creative solution to a problem that I hadn't even thought of. I love opportunities to give out inspiration (if we're playing DnD at least) in situations like that.

My perfect party mix is

Storytellers, character crafters, and lore hunters.

My table is not the place for...

A party that constantly hates each other. If its part of your character arc that's cool, but it has to be an actual arc not a straight line. I've been in too many campaigns where all the characters were just mean to each other and all the npcs the entire time and it gets boring and un-fun quickly.
