About Jim

I have been fascinated with D&D ever since I was a kid. About two and a half years ago, I discovered playing D&D online and I fell in love instantly! It's hard to setup games IRL unfortunately, so all of my experience is online. I played through a year and a half long campaign which was Wild Beyond the Witchlight and then that transitioned into Eve of Ruin where we had a TPK by a lich. Once that campaign ended, the DM needed a break and I sat not playing for a few months until I finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to reach out to my old party mates and run a campaign myself. I have been DM'ing for roughly the last year and a half. We finished the Phandelver and Below campaign and then have transitioned into Curse of Strahd, which I am currently running now. I've also been able to work in a few Quests from the Infinite Staircase, which was awesome and the party just loved it! I started off using Roll20 but then migrated to Foundry VTT b/c of the more advanced features. Bottom line, I love DM'ing games, especially getting new players involved and help them fall in love with D&D as well and I am hoping that perhaps I could make a little pocket money doing that! I love D&D, and I love showing new players how exciting, tense, funny and just overall what a joy it can be, and at the end of the day, that makes it worth the time!

How Jim runs games

I really try to run a balanced campaign with good NPC character building, so social interactions have meaning and impact on the world. I like to take an NPC that maybe was a background character and expand them out into a full fledged BBEG sometimes, just to keep things interesting. I do enjoy running combat encounters too, but I do try to keep it roughly 50/50. The thing that I really enjoy about DM'ing and D&D in general is that anything can happen, and when those unexpected events do happen, I like to take advantage and go off in a different direction from maybe what the adventure has written. That being said, I also do like running the written campaigns quite a bit, sprinkling in little extras that the players never really know are extras. When I pull that off, I get so excited about the storytelling and creativity that this allows me to share with my players, that I just can't wait for the next session! I also like to drop little nuggets through the downtime, just to keep the players guessing and interested even when we are not "at the table". I do comprehensive review notes and post those using HomeBrewery so that if someone misses a session, or joins the campaign late, then they can read through what the party has been doing to this point and can catch up!

I like to have a fairly relaxed table that is focused on having fun. I am not really hard core on the rules as written, but rather on telling the story that we've all gathered to take part in.
