About Death's Door DM

Hi, I’m Max, also known as Death’s Door DM. I’m a UK based Dungeon Master who runs premium online D&D games through Foundry VTT. I love dark fantasy, gothic horror, survival stories, strange mysteries, dangerous journeys, and the kind of adventures where the party still talks about one bad decision weeks later. I put a lot of care into presentation and preparation. My games use atmospheric maps, lighting, music, automation, and carefully built scenes to help players feel immersed from the moment the session begins. I want the table to feel polished, easy to follow, and ready to play, whether you are brand new to D&D or already know your way around a character sheet. I enjoy running both official adventures and fully homebrew campaigns, especially games with strong atmosphere and a clear identity. My aim is to create sessions that feel memorable, cinematic, and worth showing up for every week. Outside of running games, I’m someone who genuinely enjoys the craft of DMing: building encounters, refining systems, creating locations, writing NPCs, and making the online table feel as close to a real shared world as possible. Step through Death’s Door, and let’s see what waits on the other side.

How Death's Door DM runs games

My games are built around player agency, consequence, and immersion. I prefer campaigns where the world reacts to the party rather than sitting still until the next quest marker appears. NPCs remember what happened. Factions pursue their own goals. Enemies adapt. Settlements change. Problems ignored may worsen, while victories can leave a real mark on the world. At my table, character choices matter. Backstories are not just flavour text. They can become allies, enemies, rumours, debts, obligations, temptations, and entire plot threads. I like players to feel that their characters belong in the world and have reasons to care about what happens next. Combat is tactical and dangerous without being adversarial. I enjoy smart enemies, meaningful terrain, resource pressure, and fights that emerge naturally from the fiction. Exploration also matters, especially in harsher campaigns where travel, weather, supplies, fatigue, time, and risk can shape the story as much as any villain. Roleplay is encouraged, but never forced into awkward spotlight moments. I like giving players room to speak, scheme, argue, bond, investigate, and make terrible plans with confidence. You can expect: • Player driven storytelling • Meaningful choices and lasting consequences • Tactical combat with intelligent enemies • Character backstories woven into the campaign • Exploration, travel, and survival systems where appropriate • A living world with reactive factions and NPCs • Fair rulings, clear communication, and consistent tone • Dark fantasy, horror, mystery, and moral ambiguity when suited to the campaign My goal is not to beat the players. It is to create a world that feels dangerous, alive, and worth surviving.

Death's Door DM's ideal table

My table is welcoming, respectful, and focused on making sure everyone gets to enjoy the game. You do not need to be an expert to play here. New players are welcome, and I am happy to help with rules, character creation, Foundry VTT, and getting comfortable with the flow of play. Experienced players are equally welcome, especially if you enjoy teamwork, immersion, and character driven stories. I value players who are engaged, reliable, respectful, and willing to share the spotlight. You do not need to be a professional actor or know every rule. Just bring a character you care about, communicate clearly, and be ready to play as part of a group.
