About DavidTheGinger
Hi! I'm David, a film producer and story analyst by day, game master by night. I'm a sucker for fantasy, sci-fi, and horror in various flavors, and I love to geek out over new sourcebooks within universes that fascinate me. I'm also certified as a coffee master, so feel free to talk to me about your favorite caffeinated beverage!

I ran my first game...
with my sisters-in-law, and it devolved into hilarious madness quite quickly despite us eventually finishing the module in style.
People are always surprised when I tell them
"Roll initiative!"
When I'm not running games I'm...
making coffee, drinking coffee, or reading a new sourcebook for fun.
How DavidTheGinger runs games
I enjoy using the "rule of cool" while still making sure the story is cohesive for every player. A little improvisation on my end, and a lot of listening, means I can help you tell the stories that become important to you. And yes, that can mean you end up side-questing yourselves, so just let me know if you'd rather I keep you on task. I have no problem bringing the center of the game back into focus while still keeping things interesting and engaging.

My favorite trope is...
probably vigilante justice or revenge served cold.
Rules are...
important to remember, especially when you learn to bend or break them to give everyone a chance at having fun the way the group agrees on having fun.
When it comes to voices
I like playing however people are comfortable. I enjoy doing voices about 60% of the time, but some players like to only speak in their own voice. It's totally fine either way in my opinion.
DavidTheGinger's ideal table
I do my best to set up scenes and then let the players drive a lot of the narrative, for better or for worse. And when you get landed in deeper waters than you expect, I often provide a way out. I've worked with groups that are more serious, and enjoy that a lot. But I've also had many more groups that are just friendly and enjoy a little hilarity with their epic fantasy jaunts. Whatever vibe you go for, I'm a DM that listens, and I find that to be the most important part of the storytelling that happens at my table.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
theater of the mind
I love it when a player
comes up with their own flavor of an action they take and narrates it for the table.
I think metagaming...
is hard to stop once you start. But when you do stop metagaming and replace that strategy with actual, honest-to-gods roleplaying, the game becomes way more fun for everyone at the table.
