About David

I've been playing TTRPGs for nearly 20 years, primarily D&D (3.5, 4e, 5e) with most of that time as the Game Master of the groups I've been in. My RPG library is extensive and I love making small modifications to make games more enjoyable or to fit the themes we're going for (whether serious or slapstick). I also love using elements from some games to enhance others (particularly I love Countdown Clocks from PBtA/ Forged in The Dark). I love playing different systems with people of all sorts.

How David runs games

I enjoy a blend of experience and believe that role-play can dovetail nicely into mechanics and vice versa. I love getting deeply into character tending to describe from a "Director" perspective. I set the scene and ask "What do you do?"

When it comes to voices

I tend to describe how someone speaks then speak in my own voice until I warm up with people.

David's ideal table

My ideal table is with people who are open to collaboration, passing the spotlight and helping others. In recent times, I have started to lean towards hopeful stories that uplift each other or push back against the things that would keep us from being our whole selves.

I love it when a player

pulls in another player or invites another player to engage with their backstory.

I think metagaming...

is perfectly fine. I especially love when players lean into the fact their character might not know something that the player does- dramatic irony is one of my favorite literary devices
