About me

Hello! You can call me CrunchyCrab, or Anthony. I've been a game master for six years and a player for many years before that, but I've been a storyteller my whole life. With a background in screenwriting and filmmaking, I like bringing my cinematic sensibilities to RPGs to craft memorable moments through narrative and gameplay. Roleplaying games, especially ones hosted online, create a unique opportunity to meet folks from all walks of life in all parts of the globe. I am proud to bring together people from different countries, of any and every gender-identity, and all levels of experience in my games. Creating a welcoming environment at the table is my top priority, and as such I employ safety tools that allow players to communicate clearly and without judgement—to myself and others at the table. While I'm new to the StartPlaying community, I've been running professional games on my own via Roll20 and Foundry since 2020. The pandemic inspired me to take my passion for pen and paper games and turn it into a profession. Since then I've logged more than 2,500 hours (over 100 days!) GMing games for dozens of players, many of whom have stuck with me for years. I specialize in running extended campaigns, and enjoy seeing players develop their characters over time. Although D&D and Pathfinder have been my core business, I love learning and experimenting with new systems and am always looking to add more to my repertoire. Thanks for checking me out, and I hope you find the game that's right for you!

GM Style

I consider myself as a collaborative GM who works with players to build exciting and engaging stories. I seek to present interesting characters to meet, challenges to overcome, and worlds to explore. Each game is our own personal legend—forged by us and for us. In terms of the moment by moment experience, I enjoy a healthy mix of roleplay and combat. I aim for a 50/50 split in most sessions, though with longer running campaigns there are occasionally sessions that tip one way or the other. While I use tactical combat encounters and strive for rules accuracy, I also describe action cinematically and encourage players to do so as well. Bringing interesting, engaging, and occasionally eccentric characters to life through voices is a passion of mine; but not something I expect from players unless they are comfortable doing so.
