About Jamie Emma

Hi all! I’m Emma, the Game Master behind Cozy Critical, a space where I hope to bring collaboration, cozy fun, and epic adventure together for people's enjoyment. Tabletop games provide a restful outlet that helps us disconnect from the real world for a little while, and I hope that my games can provide that for you! With over 5 years as a GM, 7 years playing TTRPGs, 6 years as a middle school science teacher, and 3 years in higher education I bring rich game mechanics together with an environment where players can feel comfortable learning new systems and trying new things. My goal is to create welcoming games that blend character development, emotional fantasy adventure arcs, and hopefully the right amount of chaos and silliness. Between a professional virtual tabletop setup and my past experience leading fantasy games, streaming TTRPGs, podcasting, and performing theater, I offer a strong foundation for us to build something special at the table. Whether you are new to TTRPGs or have played longer than I have, I hope you'll join me for some collaborative fun. Thanks so much, and I look forward to telling unforgettable stories together 💫

I became a GM because

crafting stories and building community bring me joy!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

(any version of) Pokemon Tabletop, Pathfinder 2E, and D&D!

When I'm not running games I'm...

sailing, picking up new projects, and snuggling with my kitties!

How Jamie Emma runs games

Let's unravel a story together. I hand you the puzzle pieces to a tale and you arrange them together. I offer you challenges to test your characters and, in the most serious cases, determine whether they can brave the journey forward. I push your characters in combat to bring out the best of your gameplay. You step into my world and I offer the framework within which you become the hero. In short, I offer a balance between all aspects of a tabletop RPG experience. Combat - trivial, intermediate, and deadly, will constitute much of your hero's physical growth. Roleplay - mystery, self-discovery, and personal hardship, will encompass much of your character's inner growth.

I prep by

outlining the major plot points to hit during session and listing any important locations, NPCs, and monsters who might show up. After that, I let your characters (and some on-the-fly improvisation) fill in the rest!

Rules are...

important, provide the framework for our world, and should only be bent in the most heroic of circumstances.

When it comes to voices

I try to be wacky and creative! I also love a good accent.

Jamie Emma's ideal table

All players who are kind to others are welcome at my table. I am very methodical about going person by person for most in-game interactions, making sure that everyone gets a chance to shape the story. I love when players take the initiative during story moments, but I am also appreciative when a player goes out of their way to include others in the story who might be quieter. I also tend to stick to rules as written, except in the most interesting of circumstances. Therefore, players who are ready to build a story within the provided ruleset will thrive at my table. Altogether, I believe my table tends to be a very dynamic place. Any style of gameplay is welcome, so long as you are kind, inclusive to others, and ready to use the ruleset as the framework for the world we create together.

I am for a vibe that's...

cozy, fun, silly, and kind.

I love it when a player

comes to me with a well-thought-out backstory that they have clearly put time, effort, and love into, then asks if it will fit into my world. Yes. The answer is yes, it will.

My table is not the place for...

speaking over others.
