About Jamie Emma

Hi all! I’m Jamie Emma, the Game Master behind Cozy Critical, a space where I hope to bring collaboration, cozy fun, and epic adventure together for people's enjoyment. Tabletop games should provide a restful outlet that helps us disconnect from the real world for a little while; I hope that my games can provide that for you! My table guidelines: - All are welcome, so long as you are welcoming to others. - Practice active listening during games. - Collaborate with other players when given the opportunities. - Allow other players their moments of spotlight. - Published, third-party and homebrew content may be used only if it has been vetted by me and it has a functioning Foundry VTT module to make gameplay accessible. My focus as the GM must remain on storytelling, not building computer automation for one's character. Here's what I consider when I price my games: - How long is the game (in hours per session)? - Is this adventure planned as a short-form or long-form adventure? - Is this a pre-written adventure path or a homebrew story? - Is this a pre-established setting or something I designed / am designing? - How much weekly prep time will I need? Why me? With over 6 years as a GM, 8 years playing TTRPGs, 6 years as a middle school science teacher, and 3 years in higher education, I bring rich game mechanics together with an environment where players can feel comfortable learning new systems and trying new things. My goal is to create welcoming games that blend character development, emotional sci-fi and/or fantasy adventure arcs, and hopefully the right amount of chaos and silliness. Between a professional virtual tabletop setup and my past experience leading fantasy games, streaming TTRPGs, podcasting, and performing theater, I offer a strong foundation for us to build something special at the table. Whether you are new to TTRPGs or have played longer than I have, I hope you'll join me for some collaborative fun. Thanks so much, and I look forward to telling unforgettable stories together 💫

I became a GM because

crafting stories and building community bring me joy!

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Pokemon Tabletop Adventures 3, Pathfinder/Starfinder 2E, and Big Eyes Small Mouth 4E!

When I'm not running games I'm...

gardening, being a handywoman, and spending time with animals.

How Jamie Emma runs games

- RAW over Rule of Cool (except in the most unique of circumstances), ... Mechanics are SO important because they shape what is possible in our world, but the rules might not accommodate every situation. In those rare circumstances, let's improvise. - Build a character that is motivated to be part of the adventure and act in the party's best interests. - Two players can play the same class or serve a similar niche. There's no rule against two bards in the same party. The music might get a little loud, but the company is what matters. - The rules are the medium through which our world becomes possible. Trust them to frame our story.

I prep by

outlining the major plot points to hit during session and listing any important locations, NPCs, and monsters who might show up. After that, I let your characters (and some on-the-fly improvisation) fill in the rest!

Rules are...

important, provide the framework for our world, and should only be bent in the most heroic of circumstances.

When it comes to voices

I try to be wacky and creative! I also love a good accent.

Jamie Emma's ideal table

All players who are kind to others are welcome at my table. I am very methodical about going person by person for most in-game interactions, making sure that everyone gets a chance to shape the story. I love when players take the initiative during story moments, but I am also appreciative when a player goes out of their way to include others in the story who might be quieter. I also tend to stick to rules as written, except in the most interesting of circumstances. Therefore, players who are ready to build a story within the provided ruleset will thrive at my table. Altogether, I believe my table tends to be a very dynamic place. Any style of gameplay is welcome, so long as you are kind, inclusive to others, and ready to use the ruleset as the framework for the world we create together. Lastly, while I do emphasise party composition as important to gameplay, and while I encourage players to build characters that fill an unfilled role, I will not bar anyone from playing a role or class they feel drawn toward simply because it has been chosen by another player.

I am for a vibe that's...

cozy, fun, silly, and kind.

I love it when a player

comes to me with a well-thought-out backstory that they have clearly put time, effort, and love into, then asks if it will fit into my world. Yes. The answer is yes, it will.

My table is not the place for...

speaking over others.
