About Colby Greer

Hello! My name is Colby. I have been playing TTRPGs for about three and a half years, and I have been GM-ing for just as long. I have plenty of experience working with new players, and have no problem helping those less experienced players learn the game. I like presenting my players with choices and challenges that can be approached from multiple angles, and encourage creative solutions. I try to facilitate an atmosphere where players feel free to make whatever moves they think is best, and I do my best to rule the results in a way that is fair and feels reasonable to all. More often than I would like my players have found ways to completely subvert my plans for a session, and often those are the best moments of the campaign. My experience running games has taught me that the best campaigns are written out from the players, and their stories. I like to collaborate with my players as they write character backstories that will tie directly to the narrative, and give personal stakes to the campaign. I generally run combat heavy campaigns, with battles that are informed by the story over random encounters.

I started running games because...

My brothers and I wanted to play D&D, but we didn't know anyone that could run a game for us. I jumped in on the deep end, and learned the game by running it. I have continued to DM whenever I can, and I try to improve with each game I run. I look forward to running games for you.

How Colby Greer runs games

I almost exclusively run homebrew campaigns, because, to me, modules feel too impersonal, and make the party members, and their backstories irrelevant to the overall story. I like running campaigns that focus on the PCs and their stories. I generally lean towards combat heavy campaigns, but I do my best to let combat come from the narrative and player decisions, rather than using many random encounters.
