About Paul Darnton
I've been running games more than half my life. For ten years, I ran one shots, OWoD LARPs, and my own curated games at GenCon, twice being added to the GenCon Presents prestige list. I have experience with every edition of D&D since AD&D 2nd ed, World of Darkness, Shadowrun, Mind's Eye Theater, All Flesh Must Be Eaten, Cosmere RPG, Mistborn Adventure Game, and (My favorite) DIE. I have also created and run a large number of homebrew games and systems, and feel comfortable running any genre of game. One of my favorite HB One Shots was called The League of Extraordinary Muppets. I had to practice SO MANY voices for that one. In my other life, I'm having a go at making a living as a blacksmith (paid the bills two months running with my hammer and anvil!). I read a lot, write some, play video games, and cook.

My favorite shows/movies are
The Magicians True Detective (season one) Safety Not Guaranteed Brick Memento
My favorite system of all Time is
DIE. It's so deep and soulful, with endless opportunities for character development and cool roleplay moments.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Hammering away in my blacksmith forge, reading, or trying to explain the concept of personal space to Slagathor, my American Pitbull.
How Paul Darnton runs games
Speaking for myself, I'm most interested in role play, character development, and improvisation, and my games often reflect that. That said, I'm as ready to use a hex map or a ruler to get as crunchy as we wanna be.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Edgar Wright. Cool concepts, witty dialog, sudden hilarity, commitment to the bit.
Rules are...
A useful means of providing structure to the group storytelling venture we're embarking on together.
When it comes to voices
I've got a bunch of them. But for some reason my Russian accent morphs into Scottish if I use it too long.
Paul Darnton's ideal table
I like to keep things chill and friendly. In character rivalry and strife are awesome and welcome, but out of character we should be friends. Important thing to note: There is NEVER any sexual violence in my games, on or offscreen. It may be historically accurate, or whatever, but I'm not interested in bringing it to the table.
Featured Prompts
I am for a vibe that's...
Collaborative, raucous, and enjoying the moment
I think min/maxing...
Can get boring pretty quickly.
My table is not the place for...
Hate, politics, religion, punching down, bullying, or other unpleasantness. Out of character, of course. In character, all those things can be interesting choices.
