About Lance
I’ve been playing and running tabletop RPGs since 1995, beginning with AD&D and Star Wars D6. Over the past 30 years, I’ve run a wide variety of systems, including multiple editions of Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, Savage Worlds, Mutants & Masterminds, D20 Modern, and numerous old-school and modern RPGs. My preferred style is open-world sandbox play: creating a living world and letting the players decide where the story goes. I love collaborative world-building, meaningful player choices, and allowing the world to respond naturally to the characters’ actions, ambitions, successes, and mistakes. Shadowdark and Old-School Essentials are currently my preferred systems for this improvisational style, but I’m also comfortable running D&D 5E, Dungeon Crawl Classics, Mutant Crawl Classics, Dolmenwood, Savage Worlds, Beyond the Wall, Fallout, The One Ring, B/X, AD&D, and similar systems. The games I enjoy most are the ones where I’m just as surprised by what happens as the players. Those campaigns often become better than anything I could have written beforehand because we created the story together—and ultimately, it becomes the players’ story.

I started running games because...
I always has a vivid imagination and was fascinated that I could bring others into these worlds I had created
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Old School Essentials, Savage worlds, The One Ring
When I'm not running games I'm...
Training Wild Mustangs (usually just scooping a ton of poop)
How Lance runs games
I like open world sandbox, where the players, and random encounters, dictate where the story goes. I do not typically make long narrative storylines in an effort to prevent railroading players. The only exception being when the players actions have set some type of story in motion. Then I'll make something custom, often with feedback from the player themself. I was a working performer (musician) for many years, so I REALLY get into the RPing side of it. I'm absolutely terrible with voices and such, but it doesn't stop me from trying :)
Lance's ideal table
My table is relaxed, friendly, and roleplay-focused. Jokes and laughter are welcome, but choices have consequences and the world takes your characters seriously. This game is best for players who enjoy exploration, roleplaying, creative problem-solving, and making their own decisions. New players are welcome—you don't need to know the rules, just be willing to engage with the world and your fellow players. Above all, this is a cooperative table. Give everyone room to shine, respect the other players, and come ready to discover where your choices take us.
