About Jase

I started playing TTRPGs in middle school with my dad playing D&D, and I haven't been able to stop since. I began running my own game with my friends while I was still in high school, and I am still playing in that campaign today. Outside of TTRPGs, I have two published short stories, and I'm working a script for a Fire Emblem-style video game.

I became a GM because

I am incredibly passionate about storytelling and immersion. While I greatly enjoy other forms of media, there's something special about the direct back and front of roleplaying.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

descriptive, imaginative, and patient.

When I'm not running games I'm...

either playing a video game or writing.

How Jase runs games

My two biggest qualities as a GM is descriptions and balance. Atmosphere and immersion are incredibly important to me in any form of media, and giving a compelling description of the environment and actions is a TTRPG's primary method of engrossing a player into the world. As for balance, I enjoy writing games with all three pillars of game design, combat, roleplay, and exploration, in harmony. While exploration is my personal favorite of the three, I prefer to have all of them in focus during a campaign.

My favorite trope is...

sympathic antagonists. To me, villains are more interesting if you can understand their motivations, even if you disagree with their actions.

My games focus on...

trying to create a believable world without getting lost in the details. I also like give players the opportunity flesh out their characters.

Rules are...

a means to an end. They can aid in making a fantasy but, if going outside of the rules is more fun, breaking them is okay.

Jase's ideal table

I typically run games with the expectation that the players have grounded characters that they want to tell their own story with alongside mine and the rest of the party.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

dark yet hopeful. There's a quote from the Witcher TTRPG book that perfectly summarizes my favorite tone: "Though happy endings are rare, the darkness makes the joyful moments all the sweeter, and companionship is one of the greatest treasures that you can attain."

I love it when a player

knows when to take the spotlight and when to leave it. It's okay to lead the charge and do something awe-inspiring when the time is right, but everyone should get a chance to do the same.

I think min/maxing...

is boring. D&D and many other TTRPGs can easily be broken because the rules were written to make characters, not lists of stats.
