About Betsy
Hi there! I’m Betsy :) This is my sixth year as a D&D 5e GM. I love running relaxed games with a heroic action/adventure tone that leaves room for comedy and character growth. (My games probably aren't for you if you're looking for traditional mega-dungeons, hex crawls or grimdark genres.) Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, and Inuyasha are guiding inspirations for me: straight forward plots full of thrills and laughs. My goal is for everyone to leave the table with fond memories of our adventures together and have excitement for the next one. :)

I became a GM because
I love creating a space for people to feel safe and encouraged to let their inner child play pretend again.
My favorite shows/movies are
• The Lord of the Rings, • The Mummy (1999), • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, • Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, • Rurouni Kenshin (2012), • Hero, • Kung Fu Panda 2, • Mulan (1998), • Ocean's 11, • Sailor Moon (1990's)
How Betsy runs games
I plan sessions in bullet points rather than 'scripts'. This allows me to offer clear (yet never forced) party objectives with flexibility. In other words, you won't feel lost on what you could do next, but will have the freedom to follow your character choices. I describe new scenes with enough details to be immersive, but I try to keep it brief so that players have more time to play! No lore dumps here! I openly state what could happen before a risky roll is made because I don't want a player to feel like they were tricked. Likewise, character death is never my priority, but it is always a possibility.

I deal with rules issues by...
listening to the intent of what the player wants to do; I am usually willing to strike a deal.
Rules are...
meant to encourage consistency and fairness within a TTPRG, not limit the players' creativity.
When it comes to voices
I try to make each NPC unique for ease of understanding who is speaking. I don't "do accents" I merely try to emulate speaking styles from actors and fall short of doing a good impression. I include non-European accents because representation is important to me.
Betsy's ideal table
The vibe at my table is kick back, grab a snack, and let's have some fun! I love teaching this game to new players in a hands-on way, so if you're new to D&D, it's a great table for you! I put in extra work to make sure you and your fellow players' PCs aren't just traveling strangers who met at a tavern. We spend session 0 creating shared experiences and connections between the party members and the world/plot. Ideally, that will help create a custom campaign that won't work if your character wasn't in it. Integrated PCs for the win! I encourage players to speak in-character to feel more immersed in the story, but no need to change your voice if that isn't fun for you. I love having shenanigans and teamwork at the table. My mission is to provide a friendly, respectful table where everyone can feel comfortable saying "Here's a crazy idea that might just work..." Also, if you're interested in an adventure game that has non-sentient antagonists or non-lethal resolution in combat as the default, feel free to message me about setting that game up.

I am for a vibe that's...
"It's been a long day, let's kick back and play!" Sessions that are easy to follow, but might include difficult choices for the players to make.
My table is not the place for...
Folks who like to play against the GM instead of playing through the adventure. For example, players looking to solve problems with unprovoked violence, seduction, toilet humor, or players who treat NPCs as disposable won't be a great fit for this table.
