About Arzel

Long time player of over 10 Years with multiple years of running games from different genres and playstyles. Really big on character building and helping people understand the choices they are making to realize the image of their OC. I love building story lines and making moments for players and getting to see the joy on their face. Personally I like overcoming challenges in and out of combat and sharing these victories with others.

How Arzel runs games

As a DM I love letting players actions and decisions dictate the story. I prefer to build up the world and present decisions to players. Using improv skills and planning multiple ways the parties plans can take use to have an open world where choices matter. During combat I like to push players to make the most of their character choices to have "moments of glory" with the hopes that between the world, roleplay and combat they see their characters as who they hoped they would from the beginning.

I prep by

Preparing major story beats and combat along with ways to helps the party along while leaving space for improv and for the party to make their own decisions.

Rules are...

There to keep everyone inside a power set but can be fudged at time.

When it comes to voices

I think it depends on comfort, I’m not the best with different voices but I try. I believe actions and words are more important for role play than voices.

Arzel's ideal table

I like creating heavy role play tables where choices outside of combat matter to the overall world the players are in. I also enjoy making challenging combat and puzzle encounters to allow the choices in spells and abilities to shine. Overall being able to improv and play off my players instead of feeling like I’m just pushing them along myself is the best setting I have found.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Are more focused on themselves then the party, or use “it’s what my character would do” to cover for actions that interrupt game or make others at the table uncomfortable.

I think min/maxing...

Is great when it fits the characters personality and back story. We all love big damage but I believe it always feels better when it takes the perfect moment or happens once in awhile instead of every round of combat

My table is not the place for...

Solo rpg fantasies, TTRPGS are a collaborative game and is about having fun with the people you’re with. Also anyone who is disrespectful in game or in life to anyone’s boundaries or any minority communities.
