About Matthew

I have been running a DND/RPG group for the past 8+ years. Starting off in person, it switched to online shortly before the pandemic hit and have been running it that way since then. Not only have I developed a lot of experience playing with people, I also much experience handling different types of people and a few with conditions like autism. This have allowed to learn some techniques and tricks to ensure that the games run smoothly and that people have a fun and engaging time. I have also learned art skills to create beautiful artwork to build a visually engaging world as well so that my players have visuals to connect with. I strive myself in ensuring that no AI is used for the game and instead hand craft everything or find the relevant content. I’ve run a variety of games as well beyond dnd including Cyberpunk Red and Call of Cthulhu and run a variety of game styles like horror and sci fi. Each one I ensure that no corners are cut and the players get to enjoy a rich narrative with developed and fun characters.

I became a GM because

I enjoy making. I enjoy making stories, I enjoy making worlds, I enjoy making art and I enjoy making all these pieces come together. I also really enjoy the joint creation venture that is making with players. ensuring backstory melds nicely with everything for a grand experience.

My favorite shows/movies are

Total Recall, Babylon 5 and Airplane! I do very much enjoy classic sci fi and more of the absurd comedies. I also find contrast, either visually or content wise, to be very fun and I try to imbue this aspect into my games.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Either thinking about the game story or making art for the game. Giving NPCs unique portraits that help them to stand out or simply making maps or cars for maps. I like giving my worlds a unique flavour and unique images are a step towards that.

How Matthew runs games

I prefer games with a focus on roleplaying and storytelling. Indepth and fun characters and a compelling story is what I offer. Combat is more about allowing for cool moments and explosions. My gm style has been described as 'a bad 80s action film but in a good way.'

I deal with rules issues by...

Finding a compromise and setting that in stone or finding out the proper rule after the game. Momentum is important to me and I much prefer not stopping the game to look up rules (unless it is SUPER important).

My games focus on...

engaging and complex narratives that weave the players backstory into tales of revenge, change and they grey zones between good and bad. But also allowing time to focus on the little things like friendship and those absurd moments in life.

Matthew's ideal table

Fun and focused players who engage in the game and the world. I tend to run serious games with elements of comedy and so by coming in ready for serious and silly you'll have a much better time. NPC will have layers so getting to know them and getting to know the story will result in a much more fun time.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

fully warps themselves in the game story and world. sending me messages between games about the lore, giving me an indepth backstory with many elements and having deep in game conversations with NPCs and other players.

My table is not the place for...

Racism, Homophobia or sexism. I make sure to run an open and friendly table that has players that respect each other.
