About William
I've been running RPGs for longer than I can remember, and have now been doing it professionally for 6 years. Until recently I worked with a company that used games to help develop social skills and support mental health. While that isn't a specific goal of my GMing moving forwards, I maintain a trauma-informed approach prioritizing empathy and tolerance. I welcome anyone who doesn't make others feel unwelcome.

How William runs games
My games tend to focus on grand adventures, starting with scrappy underdogs who eventually rise to cosmic proportions. In D&D alone I've run 10 campaigns starting at level 1 and ending at level 20. Whenever possible I support players in developing their characters as they fly through the crucible of chaos and take on new roles in their world. The campaigns I run are always original and never turn out exactly how I think they will - my greatest delight is being surprised with how my players handle situations and the goals they choose for themselves. I have a passion for game design and have been working on my own system. I ensure I have a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the rules of any system I run, but I also try to understand why those rules were created and what impact they have on my campaigns. I usually stick by those rules, but I'm confident in making exceptions and changes when needed, and in clearly communicating those changes to my players. That said, I see official items and stat-blocks of creatures as examples and more often use my own.

I once ran a session...
where villains were trying to extract the divine power from a group of demigods. When the leader of the villains was about to absorb the power, the ranger's crocodile companion leapt in and took the power instead. The crocodile became a permanent addition to the world's pantheon.
My favorite trope is...
character growth intertwined with power boosts.
Rules are...
the starting point, but I'm willing to move beyond them when I think it will be beneficial for the group or if they don't fit a particular adventure.
