About Omy "Doofy"

Please message me if you're interested in creating a character for a long-term campaign, or if you just want to talk DND!!! My door is almost always open! My adventures in Dungeons & Dragons began over 15 years ago during the 3.5 era. Initially, I was too nervous to roll the dice myself, so I sat in to watch my friends play. I remember spending that entire evening flipping through the Player's Handbook, imagining the characters I could create for every single race and class. Fast forward to today, and I've proudly worn the mantle of "Forever DM" for my home group for the past five years—and I haven't looked back! I've always had a deep passion for reading and writing, drawing heavy inspiration from epic worlds like The Wheel of Time, One Piece, Game of Thrones, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. That love for storytelling, I hope, translates directly to my tables. I thoroughly enjoy crafting homebrew content and mechanics to surprise my players, but to ensure the game stays fair and fun, I always run my ideas past two trusted fellow GMs for balance checks first! Last but not least, the rule of cool above all, now let's tell an epic story together!

I got started GMing...

I have always been a lore nerd who loves to write as is, so when my friends became interested, it felt very natural for me. With that being said, I'm not so absorbed into the writing that I will railroad, let alone blast you guys with mountains of dialogue.

My favorite system of all Time is

I have to say 5e or Pathfinder, simply because they truly make an excellent base for telling stories together. Helping guide the chaos of an average TTRPG experience. Simply because they are very adaptable to whatever we need them for!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

I think after getting through a couple of the joke answers, we would ultimately settle on three common answers. Flexible: You tell me what you want to do, and I will try to work with you to make it happen! Fun: Rule of cool almost always comes first, but it is a balancing act. Lastly, dedicated.

How Omy "Doofy" runs games

Welcome to my table! If you play in one of my games, you are stepping into a true sandbox where player agency is king. I absolutely despise railroading; your choices, backstories, and actions are what actually shape the world. Right now, I run a massive, living homebrew setting called "The Tales of Vespera". Because I’m a huge reader and writer at heart, my worlds are deeply narrative-driven, drawing on the sweeping lore and epic stakes of The Wheel of Time, One Piece, Game of Thrones, and Star Wars. You can expect a rich, immersive story, but I also love crunchy, high-stakes combat. I enjoy modernizing and tweaking mechanics so encounters keep us all on the edge of our seats. I'm incredibly comfortable managing chaos and balancing the spotlight. I actually run large, interconnected campaigns (up to 11 players split across multiple parties!), so making sure everyone gets their hero moment is second nature to me. I love surprising my players with custom homebrew items, monsters, and mechanics tailored to their characters. But I am completely dedicated to fair play; every single piece of homebrew I introduce gets rigorously balance-tested by two veteran GMs before it ever sees the light of day at our table.

I prep by

It depends on whether we are planning on playing a one-shot or a campaign. A one-shot will usually take about a day or two of work before I feel comfortable. For a campaign, I am a big believer in putting in a ton of work early and then just handling the week-by-week, so 2 weeks to a month.

My games focus on...

Whatever my players want it to be, honestly! The joy in this game is finding the common thread that lets all of us have as much fun as we can! I do take joy in seeing my players happy.

When it comes to voices

I'm not perfect, but I have come a long way! I do not hesitate to give my npcs different voices, and I will have fun with it! ME doing it doesn't mean YOU have to do it, though I hope seeing me act a fool will give you some peace of mind so you can do it yourself!

Omy "Doofy"'s ideal table

Every table is different, and I really do try to match my table's vibe. With that being said, I like a table that matches my eagerness for this game we love. I time in for you guys, you guys enjoy it, and so now you put more time into it, and then I see that, and the cycle continues. Lore-seekers/note-takers: Straightforward, and the shortest route to my dm heart. Fellow storytellers: Also pretty straightforward, if you are a player who, when presented with 2 options: 1. Play optimally for the team, or 2. Sub-optimal because the character would do it. If you pick option 2, then you are one of my favorite kinds of players. This is best in small doses, ultimately, but when done right, the party will love watching you mess with them! 3. Visual thinkers: I am very much a "So, how do you want to do this?" So if you're prepared to think out loud and explain your actions and how the scene unfolds, then please regale us. 4. Creative Tacticians: There is GENUINELY nothing I love more than watching a carefully thought-up encounter end in a round and a half because of creatively using surroundings, items, or even lore you remember. The encounters can be difficult, and sometimes outside-the-box thinking is needed.

I love it when a player

Forsakes minmaxing in the name of fun. I love minmaxers too, there should be at least 1 at every table genuinely, BUT if you have fun with it, and are creative, picking something you truly feel fits your character, then I will work with you!

I think min/maxing...

One of the most fun parts of this game. We are here to do cool stuff and have fun doing it. I am not the biggest fan of a party of minmaxers, but if you're after a more combat-heavy experience, then we can have some fun!

My perfect party mix is

Balanced, but not in a traditional TTRPG sense, I actually implore the players not to worry about it. I have run tables for all guys and for all girls, but I think it's the most fun when both sides are present. I don't mind running for bigger tables, so long as YOU guys don't mind it!
