About Gerell
Hey, I'm Gerell! As a gamer, anime enjoyer, Creative Writing major, and proud DND enthusiast, I'm here to provide my players with a fun time. For over half my life now, I've been dedicating myself to making engaging, fun, and satisfying experiences for my future professional audience. After discovering DND and experiencing it as both player and DM, I want to use my growth and experience to provide a fun time for players too.

When I'm not running games I'm...
Probably planning new modules, writing stories or screenplays, or watching TV/anime. Consuming peak entertainment is a good way to stay inspired and motivated. I'm effectively doubling my enjoyment and giving it to the next people.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Creative, thoughtful, and thorough. That sums up the feedback my players have given me. I do my best to make cinematic experiences that get every player invested in the game. I also make sure to have coherent systems and stable plans to ensure my players can stay immersed in the sessions.
I became a GM because
I like GMing. I've found myself doing it every semester of undergrad, taking on different groups for one-shots and long campaigns. Being able to provide fun times for my players really drove me, so why not do that here, too?

My games focus on...
The harmony between the world and the characters. I've seen sessions where the main focus of the campaign stifled roleplay, and I've seen ones where roleplay and side-tangents derailed the plot entirely. My games harmonize plot and roleplay together, maximizing meaningful moments and enjoyment.
Rules are...
Generally optional but ultimately necessary. Rules are most often what make and keep the game fun. Sometimes, they can be ignored. It's fun to honor the Rule of Cool, and we should often reward creativity that RAW shouldn't work. What matters is that the game keeps its structure and stays enjoyable.
When it comes to voices
I do my absolute best to match the vibe and tone of my characters. Whether it be with different accents or tonal shifts, I try to make each character distinct. It is specifically because of these impressions that I bring a bottle of water to each session.
Gerell's ideal table
My ideal table consists of open-minded players. Because I include a heavy mixture of combat, roleplay, and exploration, a good table includes players who can delve in (or at least not shut out) those elements. We should be ready for multiple sessions of combat, open to interacting with other players and NPCs, and attentive enough to have some footing within the world. A player doesn't need to be heavy on all of those things, but the table as a whole would ideally satisfy the criteria.

I love it when a player
Gives me a good backstory to work with, or tells me something they want to see happen. It's important for each player to have multiple epic moments, so when I have something cool that can be built towards and eventually revealed, the moments that spawn from it are truly monumentous!
I think min/maxing...
Is a perfectly okay thing to do at a base level. D&D is a great way to live out a power fantasy, so by all means, go for it. However, don't mess up the vibe. Have your optimized character, but don't speedrun interactions or ask for absurd downtime to trivialize parts of the game other players enjoy.
If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Combat. My table is full of combat. In dangerous worlds where you're only safe if you can fight to survive, combat is key. My players will experience the thrill of survival and the euphoria of overcoming the odds. If you have a power fantasy you want to test (respectfully, of course), test it here!
