About Ben

Hi! I'm Noble, but you can also call me Ben. I've been playing TTRPGs for over six years now, and I've been a forever GM (endearing) the entire time. In between playing, I'm always experimenting with interesting game mechanics, story scenarios, and NPC personalities. I love playing games with my friends, and its my heartfelt wish to be able to share that experience with others!

I became a GM because

I wanted an outlet for my creativity, and I wanted my games to become a creative outlet for others.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

creative, tactical, and dramatic.

When I'm not running games I'm...

thinking about running them. I'm always thinking about the stories I tell and how I can improve them, even when I'm not running the game. More than half of the random thoughts I have throughout the day are in some way related to the games I run, which thankfully cuts down on prep time haha.

How Ben runs games

At my core I'm a roleplay lover, I play these games and tell these stories to give my players an opportunity to enjoy playing a character. I construct my games around the idea of giving my players a satisfying setting and story to interact with. That being said, I also love, love game mechanics. I have a slough of homebrew I've added to the game, which allows my players to create a character they've never experienced before, whether that's through a new class, subclass, species, or background. More than either of those though, I pride myself on being a fair game master. I don't withhold information from players on purpose to make encounters more difficult, I don't throw my players into unwinnable scenarios and then expect them to win, I make my rulings apply to both my players and my monsters. I think being fair as a GM is paramount to allowing players to feel like their actions have a real impact on the world, that their achievements weren't because of GM Fiat.

My favorite trope is...

a good mystery, by far. Having a good question, you want answered is my favorite way to add intrigue and spice to my games, as the answer is slowly, dreadfully revealed.

My games focus on...

interacting with interesting challenges. I strive to make every session an interesting one in some way. Whether that be adding a creating combat encounter, weird world detail, or an entertaining roleplay event, I love throwing interesting things at my players to see how they react.

Rules are...

important, but not the end-all-be-all. If a rule is getting in the way of fun or a good story, we should be allowed to scrap or change it.
