About Gregory
I'm a forever GM having starting playing over ten years ago at a local game shop. After our first campaign I began inviting over friends weekly to enjoy adventures in my own homebrew worlds; and 5e 2014 staples like Curse of Strahd, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Tales from the Yawning Portal. I've run multi-year campaigns and enjoy introducing new players to the awesome TTRPG experience. I lean into the Rule of Cool at my tables and truly believe in collaborative story telling adventures. Mostly I enjoy open world sandbox type setting when creating my own campaigns and hope you will join me in some epic adventures!

I became a GM because
I find the narrative component of TTRPGs compelling and love creating worlds in which my players can feel are alive. I enjoy creating a world that moves around the players as they travel and adventure. Improvising reactions and situations based upon my players' decisions, so no two games are alike!
My favorite books are
The Dresden Files Discworld Novels The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Sword of Truth Series Foundation & Robot Series Ender's Game & Speaker for the Dead Star Wars Expanded "Legends" Universe Novels Animorphs Series His Dark Materials
When I'm not running games I'm...
I run a home game weekly and we're currently going through Curse of Strahd. During the day I'm working but hoping that I can transition to running more D&D games in my future. Hoping to meet lots of cool people on StartPlaying. I'm open to running new adventures, so message me if you have requests.
How Gregory runs games
I enjoy crafting a compelling narrative that Player Characters can engage with and NPCs which can help players drive the story forward in a satisfactory way. I love creating worlds in which my players can make creative and impactful choices, as, fundamentally to me, TTRPGs are an exercise in collaborative storytelling, and I’m not trying to write a novel. I always begin my games with a Session Zero to agree upon the tone of the game, as well as a request from players about their personal play style and questions about their characters. These allow me to more easily focus on aspects of gameplay that I know my players will lean into and gives me leverage within games to push or pull players in ways that are personally meaningful to their characters.

I prep by
I do a lot of reading of the module and/or notes from previous sessions. I'm always ready for game and thinking ahead with story hooks and what's going on in the background while your characters are running around. Also make maps on Roll20 to create clear visuals during game and improve the fun!
My games focus on...
Allowing impactful choices by players to allow immersion and fun, while adventuring on their hero's journey. Finding the comedy in serious situations while remaining true to the game. I'll let you get away with a lot, so long as you're ready for the consequences of your actions! Rule of Cool!
When it comes to voices
Love adding some flair to distinguish between characters and building emotions into my NPCs to give players a feeling for what's under the hood. Lots can be inferred by how someone speaks or doesn't answer so I'm very intentional with what my NPCs say to the players.
Gregory's ideal table
I foster an easy going and encouraging atmosphere where everyone is welcome to enjoy this most wonderful of social games. I love welcoming new players to table and guiding them through the process of overcoming fears or nerves when it comes to rules, roleplaying or social interactions. If you're keen on having fun and exploring a fantastical world while maintaining a respectful and open minded attitude then you'll fit right in.

I love it when a player
Truly embodies their character! Roleplay can be so much fun and is usually rewarded in one form or another. If you can do voices I welcome it! Encourages me to do the same and is so much fun bouncing off other people's creativity.
I think metagaming...
Can be a big challenge for newer players (and many experienced ones), while at the same time a huge part of the fun. If your character doesn't share what they're thinking or doing with their party, hilarity can ensue!
