About Kirgo

Hello, my name is Patrick. I am from Germany. Ive been playing DnD for about six years and I came to realise I enjoy GM-ing the most. I learned the game via 5e and have been playing it ever since. Be it premade modules or own homebrewn games. My players enjoy the time together. I try to give everyone at the table a good experience. I GM-ed mostly in german but also in english. Homebrew and players creative input are often valuable and I try to implement them, if it fits with the setting and the other players. Its a cooperative game after all.

I became a GM because

It is what brings me the most joy when playing Dungeons and Dragons. The ability to shape the world and set up a board for my players to enjoy and come up mid session how the world would react to the whims and wills of the players around.

I got started GMing...

...when my friend who introduced me to Dungeon and Dragons wanted to be a player themselves. I took up the mantle and never gave it back since.

My favorite books are

Any Discworld novels, any of the Ciaphas Cain novels, any Dragonlance novels and DnD books.

How Kirgo runs games

A good session has roleplaying and combat, allthough I myself prefer more roleplaying. Creativity of players in terms of problem solving is always delightful to see. The games I run are more lighthearted than grim. Rules as written is usually a solid framework and sets expectations. But rule of cool and some reasonable arguments should be able to bend the rules here and there. I try to empower my players, being able to make plans and pursue them.

I deal with rules issues by...

adressing them and checking the books if necessary. To err is human.

I prep by

reading the all of a module beforehand. Reviewing the notes that I took. And refreshing my memory on whats going to be likely important.

Rules are...

more like guidelines. They provide a good solid frame to orient yourself with. But shouldnt be so rigid that they deny you the freemdom of tomfoolery.

Kirgo's ideal table

I enjoy telling a story together with my players. Therefore players more interested in roleplaying will fit better. I try to keep things light hearted, leaning more into a humorous side of the game. Despite that I do delve into more serious topics. Which I will treat with suitable solemnity. I try to empower the players, giving them tools to solve the problems I pose. I see myself as the one who sets up a chessboard. Pieces in place. I vaguely have an idea how the pieces and story would shake out with no interference. And then the players should come in and start knocking down some figures, thus creating new outcomes that the world reacts accordingly.

I love it when a player

comes up with a creative solution to a problem.

I think metagaming...

should be avoided. I know, people may know a lot about this game and it can be hard to hold back that knowledge. But I trust that my players will act with their characters knowledge about the world in consideration.

I think min/maxing...

is okay. If you want to play someone powerfull then go ahead. As long as everyone on the table has a good time.
