About Rick

I first took up the dice in 1978, in the age of Chainmail, when dragons were deadlier, dungeons darker, and every story felt like the beginning of a legend. Since then, I’ve wandered far and wide across the realms of tabletop gaming—Traveller, Tunnels & Trolls, the great chronicles of TSR—collecting tales, honing my craft, and chasing that spark of magic that only shared storytelling can ignite. By day, I walk the halls as a teacher, studying the rise and fall of empires. By night, I gather adventurers and breathe life into new legends—worlds shaped by the same forces that define our own: courage, ambition, fate, and choices. My games draw from the great tapestry of epic fantasy. I have been known to spin entire adventures from a single song, turning melodies into myth and lyrics into living quests. A few years ago, I returned to the table to found a school gaming club—and like a long-dormant spell, the passion surged back to life; this is what I love: a fellowship of players, an epic story, and the moment when ordinary characters become legends. At my table, you’ll find you’ll find living worlds, meaningful choices, and stories that unfold like sagas. Triumph will feel earned. Loss will matter. And the memories? They’ll linger long after the final dice fall. Beyond the realm of RPGs, I still revel in the joy of board games and I make pilgrimages to the great Cons of our kind. So come—take a seat, share in the fellowship, and let us forge a story worthy of song.

I got started GMing...

I started game mastering because I love long creative stories. I wanted the experiences of the players to continue, but many of the game masters I played with only did 1-shots. So, I started creating my own long stories.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative, fair, open

How Rick runs games

My GM style leans toward dynamic, engaging play with a strong focus on combat, clever encounters, and a world that rewards player creativity. I enjoy designing tricky situations, layered encounters, and the occasional trap or puzzle to keep players thinking beyond just dice rolls. While I appreciate roleplaying and always encourage players to get into character, I keep it optional rather than front-and-center—everyone can engage at their comfort level. I’ll be honest: I’m not a “many voices” GM, but I bring NPCs and stories to life through description, tone, and atmosphere. My goal is to create a balanced experience where action, problem-solving, and storytelling come together to make a memorable adventure for everyone at the table.

I deal with rules issues by...

I don't consider myself a rules lawyer, so if the player has a point of view that makes sense or can't be decided through the rules, I don't have a problem giving the player the benefit of the doubt, if the rule doesn't give the player an unfair advantage.

Rules are...

Rules are guidelines, although I believe following them creates a solid foundation. I will adjust the rules if it benefits the story, but I also believe that they give purpose and focus while keeping players in the boundaries of the games systems.

Rick's ideal table

I like players that participate. Whether you like to role play, you do voices, or just like to participate, I am ok with all styles. I want friendly, cordial and courteous players who are open to other people. Its a game, so lets have fun!
