About Droog The Cultist

I'm Juan Villaveces, I'm from Athens, Georgia, and have been DMing since 2012, starting with 3.5, I've been DMing at my local store, soon doing 5th ed, along with other systems such as Gurps, Pathfinder, and Starfinder. I'm an artist myself, who loves to create worlds, which led me down the path of the forever dm, a path I don't mind having, as being able to create has always been a preference of mine. I hope someone with my creativity and resolve can be a useful team player!

I became a GM because

I love drawing maps of dungeons, worlds, and almost anything! The idea of making my own little world was always something I enjoyed doing.

My favorite shows/movies are

Movies: Ralph Bakshi's Wizards (1977) Heavy Metal (1981) Brazil (1985) Secret of Nimh (1982) Adventure Time (TV show)

When I'm not running games I'm...

Drawing and working on rules for my homebrew game!

How Droog The Cultist runs games

I'm a DM who enjoys making strange and fantastic, but deadly worlds. Roleplay is very important, but I'm not someone who takes it easy on players. I love to challenge my players in fun ways, where every step they take wants them to go deeper and learn more! Even at the risk of losing a character.

I deal with rules issues by...

Looking them up, if I can't find a rule within 10 mins, I make up a ruling on the spot and keep a note on it, so that later I can look up the rule to make sure I ran it properly; if not, I will update the group next session. This allows games to keep going and not slow down,

I prep by

Taking notes on what's important for the players, and seeing how far they can go, I keep prep to the basics, so that if players don't get to eveything its not wasted, but if players need more, I can easily add what's needed in the situation.

Rules are...

There for a reason, I don't mind bending a rule to keep play moving smoothly, but I like to keep the Spirit of the Law when I can.

Droog The Cultist's ideal table

If you love the weird and funny, you will love my table. I'm not someone who plays very dark and gritty games, so expect a lot of dumb jokes here and there, but that doesn't mean I can't do conflict or darker themes. Vibes are always about having a good time and keeping things running smoothly, which might make those who love rules disputes a bit antsy.

I love it when a player

Ask questions and try something, don't be afraid to put yourself out there. I always reward the daring.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Don't wish to work with others. TTRPGs are team games, and not wanting to work with your fellow players is always a red flag. I often can talk to people one-to-one if they are having problems or even feeling shy,

I think min/maxing...

Can be fun, I love the creativity in others to make the strangest, most effective way to play a game. This can be a problem if it's at the expense of others, you're with a group dont overshadow them!
