About Loonequine

Hi! I'm a long-time fan of sci-fi and fantasy who loves to put on a show. I spent my younger years performing as a reenactor and pro-wrestler and got into GM'ing and TTRPG's a bit before lockdown. Since then, I have thoroughly fallen down the rabbit hole. Besides TTRPG's, I'm working toward voice acting and enjoy writing and map-making, losing many hours to world-building. After years teaching display combat focussed on cooperative storytelling. I love having the opportunity to tell stories and perform with people, getting the fun of playing larger than life monsters and villains, and seeing people's creativity. Helping new players to relax and enjoy the game makes this such a rewarding pastime. I enjoy odd and eccentric characters and like using voices and sounds, encouraging a relaxed atmosphere at the table. Professionally, I've run a few fundraisers including some streamed online, and I've been running games of D&D 5e and several Free League games like Aliens and One Ring since 2022. I'm constantly trying to gain experience across a wide array of games to help tell the best stories.

I got started GMing...

I got started GM'ing during lockdown to help some of my friends and family keep supported and give some escapism. I was reluctant at first but found it a great way to indulge my creativity and help others to relax and have fun. I've since learned many more systems and had a lot of fun!

People are always surprised when I tell them

As a reenactor, I once rode a 17h horse into a negotiation and was led out again shirtless and backwards tied to the saddle. I was playing the king's negotiator in a siege and the defenders did not take kindly to my words. Thankfully, the horse was led by professionals but it was terrifying :D

When I'm not running games I'm...

When not working as a carer, I'm working on gettin back into writing, training up in voice acting, map-making on Inkarnate and world building. Not to mention a good dose of gaming to relax.

How Loonequine runs games

I like to create a cinematic game balancing RP and combat catering to the desires of the players. I want people to feel the scene and become really involved, whether its describing the killing blow or landing the crucial word in council. I enjoy having a variety of NPC's with distinct personalities and agendas, considering how each of them will react to the players over the game. As players explore a deep dungeon or a vast forest, the world continues, influenced by their actions. My desire in games is for the players to get the chance to be the heroes, larger than life. I want a table of trust and fun, respecting all people at the table and catering to the needs of each person. If you come up with something cool and in the spirit of the game, rule of cool often triumphs :)

Loonequine's ideal table

I like a fun-oriented team that want to see one-another thrive and share the spotlight. Whether you're the theatrical type and want a detailed finishing blow with a flourish, or quiet and focussed on the details, as long as you're having fun. Rules lawyers are fine for keeping me on track, but the flow of the game comes first. If other players have different styles or aren't sure of the rules, help each other through without judgement and I'll be pleased as punch. Even the pro's need to look up the spells so don't expect perfection and be prepared to laugh it off if things go wrong. I like a positive atmosphere free of toxicity and trolling. If you like 3.5 more than 5e or pronounce a place in Middle Earth differently, cool. If, however you're looking to put people down, gatekeep, or want to spend 30 minutes debating, not while we're on the clock. Everyone of an open mind is welcome and to each to their own, we can chat films later. I don't want you all to lose paid time and these are chats that can be done elsewhere. Above all: It's your game. Play it your way and keep it fun.
